Navigation - gas station icons

Navigation - gas station icons
I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn off the gas station and parking lot icons on the navigation display. I even see them in the examples in the manual. Is there a way - or are they always on?

i don't turn off the gas station icon because I figure I might need it one day. However, the gas station icons would all disappear if you change the view of the map by zooming out to the 1 mile view.
