Brake dust caked in drilled rotors.
I was cleaning my car the other day when I noticed that the Cross Drilled Holes in my rotors were all clogged w/ brake dust. The break dust was really caked in there so hard that I had to use a screwdriver to punch it out. I never noticed this before.
Is it safe to use wheel cleaners on the rotors?
What’s the best way to prevent this from happening again?
Thanks,
Jkw

A few possibilities.
1. You are seriously using your brakes too hard and they might have overheated a bit.
2. You have faulty pads.
3. Could be a coincidence.
I suggest that you drive the car some more, provided it is suitably safe to drive, if the problem persists, definitely go to your dealer, that can't be right.
You can use wheel cleaner on the rotors, but make sure you use the right kind. Many are basically acid, that are designed to wash concrete. Make sure you buy the right kind. P21S (or something like that) makes a good product.

You can't prevent this from happening. It's natural for this to happen with drilled rotors. The most you can do is get low dust pads, but then you would have poorer brake performance since they are harder material. Softer brake pads have a better feel and performance, but more dust. You will have to clean out the holes every now and then.

Next time if it happens again, take some pics and show us what you mean. Pics may help.

i dont see why this would be abnormal, where there is a will there is a way, where there is a hole, brake dust will go...
i have noticed this a few times too specificly during rainy season, i assume the dust gets wet and just settles and then hardens in the drilled holes, i just use a high pressue hose (car wash hose) to get it out and to save me the trouble of hand cleaning the wheels too.

Thanks for the Posts, I'll have to keep my eye on it and let you know what happpens,
I do a lot of Stop and Go driving in traffic, so that might have an effect on the brakes.
And No I don't have a C32 engine, sorry for any confusion.

What did your service manager say when you asked him on the phone, assuming that you did mention it to him.

Whoa, at first when I read your thread, I thought that you meant his service manager was going to "break" his pads.
Yea, however, that's why you call, so it's harder for them to convince you to actually bring the car in.
Never hurts to ask.
