Throttle Hesitation

My wife has a 2001 C320. I don't drive it very often, but when I do, I sometimes experience a slight "pause" in throttle response when I start from a dead stop. I find this annoying and wonder if it is normal?

Do you mean like a split second before the acceleration kicks in? My C200K does that. I know a few people that got a mod performance chip to program that out...doesn't bother me that much coz I just cruise around anyway.

It seems to happen only from a stop -like from an intersection and only when I ease the accelerator down. If I get on it harder, no lag (almost like a turbo lag1). I am curious whether this is driver pattern related. My normal ride is a 911 cab w/manual, so maybe I'm being overly picky.

The ECU actually learns how you drive. If you baby the car it learns to start off gently, and slow. If you hit it hard all the time its alot more responsive.

i think it's because your wife baby's the car and doesn't accelerate hard off the line. the computer know the driving habits and is not aggressive. you'll need to retrain the computer to your habits.

Sounds like in the future the car's memory feature needs to incorporate the driving style as well as the seat position. Wonder if the MB engineers are already working on this?

Cheers, BT

I hope - not! Drifting mirrors are a known problem already, but at least this can be corrected (as well as seat positions) with a few button pushes. No such magic button exists to restore your favorite throttle response/gear change pattern...

I was wondering whether it is not really throttle but the spring that returns the pedal to no gas position. It is pretty tight and when launching I feel the resistance.

white and whiter
i think the hesitation is caused by the electronic throttle control. i think most of the MB has this problem.

it's just that when there too much technologies interfere with the driving people complain, and when there are too little technologies people complain too.

Try setting dyno-mode on the car, that way the ESP won't touch you and mess with the throttle!

How to do this?

That is set dyno mode. I read in the manual that turning of ESP does not disable 100% of ESP. huh? I mean seriously. At least on a BMW it was one click to kill braking, hold button down for 2 seconds to kill whole traction control system (including engine retard).

So I assume that dyno mode is this all-off scenario. How how?

Please please!

Thanks.

It's really easy to have fun with the C-coupe in dyno-mode. When the ESP is off, I always like to gun the engine through the turns and make the tires burn some rubber accompanied by a large squeal. I'm sure this does absolutely NOTHING to help tire life, but hey, as they say: "boys and their toys!" (Plus the smell of burnt rubber is always a bonus.)
