Unhappy How much did you pay for replacing new brake pads?

I dropped my C230 off at Smyth European in San Jose early this morning, the service was for replacing new brake pads (at 18K miles). Less than 6 hours later, I got a call from my advisor, and he suggested that I might need to replace new rear tires for my car, which will cost me another $750-800. Anyhow, how much did you guys pay for changing new brake pads? I am paying $312. Am I paying too much? And how about two rear tires? Thanks!

for the brake pads, it sounds good if it includes installation.

300 bucks for front brakes sounds about right. Here in So Cal i paid 280.

As for the tires, 700-800 bucks sounds too much. I just had mine replaced and paid $216 each at Discount Tire Centers. For my 2 rear tires i paid $505 out the door including tax, installation and wheel balancing. BTW i had the stock michellin pilot sports.

Check them out, you might have Discount Tire Centers in No Cal.

more towards the topic...

wheres the best place online to buy brake pads? I Found the porterfield ones on formymercedes.com, and that comes out to be a bit over 200 dollars for the pads alone.

How much should i expect to pay for pads alone?

six hours to replace the pads sounds like alot..

the MB dealers in Bay Area are just ripping off their customers.

I had my Service A done in Fremont Fletcher Jones couple months ago for $300...I really don't want to know how much the B is gonna be

Just curious, how much did you pay for Service A at Smyth European?

No decent tires will worn out that quick. Most of tires from Michelin (which I assume are the ones that came with your car) come with warranty. This is from their website:

HydroEdge® 90,000 Miles
Agility™ & Agility™ Touring 80,000 Miles
Destiny™ 80,000 Miles
Harmony® 80,000 Miles
X® Radial DT 80,000 Miles
Cross Terrain™ SUV 65,000 Miles
Symmetry® 65,000 Miles
Pilot® Exalto® A/S 45,000 Miles
Pilot® XGT® H4 45,000 Miles
Pilot® XGT® V4 45,000 Miles

Of course, maybe they are going to try to tell you that they are worn out because of the way you drive (which might be true) but let them know that they are just a year or less old and you feel like getting only that milage from a michelin tire is terrible and unsafe. I still have the originals and I have 60k.

My car came with the Continentals. They were worn almost to the wear bars when I replaced them at just under 19000 miles. The rears were more bald than the front.

I replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport AS on all four. Treadwear rating is much higher. I will see what kind of tire life I get.

oh wow over 300 for just 2 front pads? they resurface the rotor as well?
i know MB dealers charger more than other brake shops but 300 kinda over the price.
my friend just got his done at caliber for 2 front pads and reserface rotors, (not sure if he got his brake fluid flushed as well or not) for about 245 and also they offer a 15% off cupon on top of that... but again. different areas might have different prices. in so-cal, the price might be more competitive

I changed my front brakes for approx. $93.00. I bought the OEM front pads, sensors and grease from the dealer and installed them myself. It was the first time that I changed them on this car myself so the first one took about 30 minutes and the second wheel only took about 15 minutes.

I need to change the rear brakes soon. The calipers appear to operate the same, but does anyone have experience with changing the rear brake pads?

Price seem fair for brake pads, about what my dealer would charge, even the Ford dealer charges $300 just for pads on a Mustang. The tires are way out of line, just go to a local tire shop. The warranty doesn't mean that it will last that long, it's just that for that period of time, if you find a defect, they'll honor the warranty, of you wear the tires out in a day at the track in 100 miles then you are outa luck. I have the factory Conti's on my 2004 with about 22K miles and they look like they'll go another 10K miles easy but maybe So Cal roads are smoother. Wish they went out at 18K miles, I hate them, very noisy. The Bridegestone Potenza RE750 are pretty good all around summer tires, about $165-175/tire OTD down here, had them on my 2002 C230.
