2000 BMW Z3 2.3 Roadster (hardtop current ly attached)
Pulled the trigger... got a new car!
I will have in my drivewy on Jan 2 a CPO 2000 BMW Z3... black-on-black-on-black (with hardtop)... 14,000 miles, warranty 'till 2006 or 100,000 miles.
CD, heated seats, fogs, 2 tops, 5-speed, 2.5L, optional wheels, and a neat chrome package for the interior and door sills. It's pretty nice... now I just need snow tires! (and some pilot sports).
its a sweet little car, and just feels right. the money on it is really good too.

Congratulations, that's a great car! Did you get the pure hardtop, or the ragtop with a removable roof?
The Z3 hardtop was at the top of my wishlist, but quickly ruled out because I need 4 seats.

Was 2000 before or after they finally put independent rear suspension on the z3? That was my big pet peeve on the earlier versions...
Of course the visual similarity to Toucan Sam didn't help. :p

yeah, that gathering was in S.Carolina (thats where the factory is), and it's the roadster with the removable hard top... (VERY quiet). I got a decent deal on it, and this is the one time in my life when I can own a 2-seater... so why the hell not... I drove the MBs before looking at this one and they just didn't light a fire the way the Z3 does (the CLK was a total yawner, nice car though) ... it feels so damn proimitive... and I LOVE IT! most important parts of decision-making process --
1) wife wants it
2) wifes MOM thinks its cool... wants me to get it
totally unexpected I take delivery on January 2 (the tax-year thing... don't ask)

the rear suspension WAS taken from the E30 3-series ('84-91?) and its not nearly as nice as the E36/E46 rear setup. I like the rear setup personally... the back-end gets all wicked on you on the full-throttle1-2. 2000 was the year they added DSC instead on ASC+T ... Which makes it a better all-weather car.
and what is up with the tucan sam reference... that is harsh!!

OK, busting out the porsche forum is NOT kind... I may NEVER have the jack to own one of those, and that dude who said decent Boxsters were in the 20's was on some serious crack... only 25K boxster i've seen was a "needs repair" job. The damn thing aint a 911 either, and the car is begging for some dinan goodies (and i even get to keep the warranty). I am also considering changing the rear badge from 2.3 to 2.5 since its actually a 2.5 under the hood (somebody in marketing got thier head stuck up their *** for a couple years on that one). but that might make me feel too much like a ricer.
anywho, the porsche card is rough, and the only reason you MIGHT call it a chick-car is that its small, and since I'm kinda short, it works for me just fine. it also earned the chick-reputation its first year in production as a 4-banger only, but even the 170hp straight-6 is more engine than you need around town. (well, maybe not...)
