any street racing story to share in the C230?

1.

had some fun with my friend's chipped 1.8T Jetta 5sp. He had some like 210hp and 240lb/ft at flywheel we rolling started at about 20mph in 2nd He jumped on me in two cars length by the time I shifted to four I was at his bumper and then we were dead even and I felt I could pull on him some more but then I dont know if He is pushing really hard. We shut down at 85 mph on city street which has 40 speed limit and we both gave each other a thump up

2.

raced my friend's 323i auto on local expressway we rolling started at 10mph and then we were even at rd gear and then 4th gear I'm pulling big time ahead of him about 70mph

after those two runs I felt the 1st, 2nd gear I hardly pull on anybody maybe I started gaining grounds at the end of 3rd. the car pulls relatively better at 4th and 5th. Do u guys have any story to share?

yeah gears 1 and 2 are not geared to pull hard. i don't know why, but that is how it's designed. personally, i don't like it.
but the other gears are perfect. from about 60 to 110 the car pulls.

i jus raced a 2000 prelude on the 59th st. bridge in nyc... i could've hit his bumper if i wanted to...
this was in 3rd... doing about 50... i could go that fast b/c i would hit him...
i topped at about 85 and slowed down for a curve...
a boxter s was on the bridge too, but he was far ahead of traffic by the time we cut through
i'm not sure if that prelude was an auto or a non-sh, but it definitely wasn't quick...

there was another time when i was jus driving to the city on the bqe (brooklyn-queens exp.)
a galant tested me. i just got the car around that time, maybe a week or so old. well i wanted to test the car myself, and took off in 3rd. i hit about 100 and didn't know it. i didn't even redline in any gear. the car is smooth and quite quick. anyway, traffic slowed down, so i kicked down to 3rd and weaved through to lose him some more.

sorry if anyone heard these stories before. i just thought i'd post em since he asked...

Here in bayarea we dont get snow just a little bit of rain. Winter is for racing since the temperature is low the car's much better performed when weather is hot and humid ;-)

ICEMAN....
what color is your 230??

I've only seen a Blue one driven by an 18 yr old Chinese girl (one of my friend's bought her previous car from her) and the C230 is her High School grad present and I've seen a Silver C230 driven by some blond chick. Someone told me that there's a Student at SAIT that has a black one.

I'm just curious.....
btw.. mine is White... =)

I can't race yet.. because I am still 'breaking in' my car...
its only got 800KM ... and I am not redlining it until at least 2000KM (the owner's manuel recommends the break-in period to be at least 1500KM)

My friend just got a prelude in the summer and he's dying to test my car against his... =)

I will post the results.......

Type-R integra

I got to have some fun with a Type-R Integra on 9a. Good 3 mile run, on the way home.
I picked him up in traffic following me as I was trying to find so open road. He was behind me as we closed on the last traffic light before the highway we were breaking into a red light. It turned green when we were 100 ft out @ 20 mph. He stayed close in 2nd but I started building a good gap in 3rd and 4th. We had to slow and clear traffic and we faced up again around 70. I Easley broke away running through 5th @124 before having to slow down to exit. He pulled up to me on the ramp and explained he lived in the other direction but had to come along for the ride he was cool.

If you have seen this before sorry for the dup.

Randy that was before or after you added the pulley?

I dont think Type R is any contest if you have the pulley and it's not that great for high speed freeway chase. Its pretty good for autoX or Track tho. Nice run anyways

After the pully...I think you are right the type-R is quick in a sprint but lack the tourqe for the high end.

Randy,

How is your car running with the pulley?? Do you think there is an warranty issues or problems with long term reliability (accelerated engine damage) etc.

I noticed that tuners offer 3 variarations to Moding the C230.
1 - Pulley upgrade
2 - Chip
3 - both pulley and chip upgrade

All 3 mods produce similar HP outputs (about 25-30HP gain)

Which Mod do you feel is the 'best'?
Does the CHIP upgrades remove the speed limiter?
Keep in mind that I am looking for a MOD that will NOT Void my warranty and will not produce any engine damage in the future.

Sorry if I am asking questions that may be impossible to anwer, but I want your opinion on this topic since you are the only one with a pulley upgrade on your C230.

I want to be able to keep up to one of my friend's WRX (auto)..

Thanks,

Henry

I personally will not have a problem with warranty. I have done all my upgrades with Renntech if I blow something up they will cover it.. that goes for any body that installs there mods. What I can’t do is go out install there stuff then mix and match other mods,
Like adding nitrous or something like that.

I also see the 25 hp gains claimed with chip only. I don’t see that as a reality. A chip will gain maybe 8 to 10 % in the Benz. I’m waiting for the chip to be released from Renntech.
Should be a 12 to 15 hp gain on top of the pulley kit.

Chipping will remove the stateside Speed Limiter in euro mode the C230 K will top out @ 149 mph. Chipping will also pick up around 500 rpm on the red line.

“I want to be able to keep up to one of my friend's WRX (auto)..” it would be cheaper to just buy one than try and build a Coupe the will out run it. I saw a bolt on turbo and chip kit for under $4000.00 for the WRX that would take it to 325 hp!!!

Good Luck with that one…

Randy,

So are you saying that Renntech provides warranty for their products and if I purchased an upgrade from Renntech, they will cover any engine damage that was cause from the upgrade..??

oh.. regarding my friend and his WRX (automatic)..... his car is completely STOCK and he will never ever MOD his car... he's just not that type of person...... I think it will be pretty hard for me to convince him to drag race me... this guy drives like a granny and its frustrating sitting in his car as a passenger. But if he ever gets the guts to drag race me..... I don't want to get blown away too badly.

Yes that is correct. That fact is important when adding mods to the car. Why save a few hundred bucks and end up holding the bag if something lets go. The ecu alone is costly new around 1500-1700 or so.

Haven't come across one that's beaten me yet. Haven't tried the M3 yet, I suppose the reputation counts for this.

Thanks.

Red face An interesting encounter with an IS300

Hi all~
I have an interesting encounter with a lower and "souped" up IS300 in Irvine, California last week.

It was around 9pm, my wife and I just finished dinner and we drove by a city college around Irvine and an IS 300 pull up behind me. I was going really slow, because my wife and I were talking about our dinner, the guy driving the IS 300 seems irritated at my low speed(45mph speed limit) he pull next to me at the next stop light and rev his engine, I could hear his "Riced muffler." I asked my wife is it is okay I have a little fun with my car, she said, "go ahead~" So I turned off the esp and the auto climate control and turned my face over to give the IS drive a mockingly smile. We took of at the same time, none of us did a peel off(I did not floor my paddle) His car was faster than my when we hit 50, but after that my car pull faster and faster until we hit 85, he was well behind me at that point, so I slowed down to give him a chance to catch up. Surely he caught up and speed passed me. This time I floor my paddle and I passed him so fast that I did not even realize it(I was looking at my speedometer most of the time) when I passed him, I was more then 90mph.

All I have to say is that we are lucky to have the new c230K coupe, it is a well capable car. Currently my car is still in the stock form, I am thinking about gettting the Upsolute chip mod for my car, hope next time I encounter a IS300 I will beat it from the start instead of catching up after 50mph, ^_^ I think all of us would want to shoe our MB POWER!

Hearing all these stories makes me hate my engine more. Why couldnt they have made my car with a C230K engine. Err I got a C240. Still I have fun beating BMW 325 on the fwy. I think my rims and my exhaust help me on top end, 70mph+ is fun. Gotta love the 6spd. If not ill go jump in my 99 C43 and kill some stangs. Just beat one the other night 1999 Cobra with NOS, I heard his silinoids go off but he still couldnt take me, beat him by 5 cars and was pulling in a race from 0 to 145mph. Beat a 300ZX twin turbo with light mods on the same day (he just had intake and exhaust).

She glanced over at me, and gave me this sorta flirty smile, so we both kinda raced up roosevelt blvd in philly, and she blew by me. later on i caught up to her, and she rolled down her window and told me to not feel bad. It was a debadged m3.

oddly enough i have civics to f150 pic up trucks rev at me at stop lights.... as if i really want to race a dropped civic ex

Hey Greg,
Thats what I did with my Z28 Camaro. I took off all the Z28 badges so it looked like a V6. The only problem was I could never rev back at them. The Camaro had stage 2 heads and a 6psi Supercharger. It was good for 450rwhp. also had intake exhaust chip, you know all the good stuff. It was always fun killing a vette or a cibra in my "v6" camaro. There is another guy on here that put c280 badges on his C43. What a sleeper! hey here's a thought, put C240 badges on a C32. thats what i call a good time!
