BMW 318is (E36)
Hmm, 05 and 06 owners report perfect operating while you 03 and older guys are having problems, sounds to me like MB saw a problem and then fixed it around 04/05. I have noticed that my dad's 03 E320 is much less likely to have its stability control systems kick in than my mom's 04 CLK320 is but I always assumed thats because of the CLKs lower gearing, it feels like it has a ton more power at 2k-3k RPM...

The person who had the accident has the 05-06 C230. No electronics can over come physics. Your parent's CLK's esp flashes more often because it is a lighter car than the E320.
