need advice did somethin stupid in my car..

ok so i was going to my friends house making a left street going about 15-20ish and i gassed it through the turn and drifted a little and hit my front passenger side rim and it bent it..its the oem funnel wheel..and i got a flat..ok fine..so i was like **** and me and my friend swapped the spare out but my alignment got tweeked out and the wheel is all screwed up and is out of alignment..i dont think i broke the axle cuz it still drove all the way home jus it rubbed a lot and the wheel was still turnable it jus made noise cuz it rubs toward the side facing the back of the car..i didnt even fully hop the curb i kinda jus hit it and stopped...big mistake..but now im stuck in a rock and a hard place..what could be the case? i know mercedes doesnt warranty this type of stuff or do they?...i jus need help to see if i can get this fixed easily without much coming out of my pocket..b/c most likely im gonna end up having to buy a new rim..which in turn makes me jus want to get aftermarkets b/c its the fraction of what mercedes will want for a oem 17 in wheel..im mainly considered about suspension and alignment...all help is very much needed lol..

Hm. I would like to help you... but... please help me by doing a better job in writing! Once you damage the alignment it is very hard to get it back to manufacturer specs. You can browse through internet, such as eBay, to look for stock Mercedes OEM wheels. Good luck bro.

Agreed, it'd help if the sentences were structured.

I was in a Lexus IS300 that did the same thing, left turn, drifted, rear passenger side wheel hit the curb with considerable (but not tremendous) force throwing me into the window as I was sitting in the rear passenger side seat.

You can hear it if you have axle trouble. The cracked axle will have a different sound. It will have an unbalanced whirring sound that increases with speed.

The stock wheels are cheap, the rears are around $300 a piece, the bad part will be that you have to replace both rear tires if the difference is more than 3/32 inch.

Suspension should be fine, sway bars, shocks, springs will be fine. However, the axle is what I'd be worried about. Alignment will not necessarily solve the problem, you'd be lucky if it does. If it's something alignment can fix, then a mere $1000 will solve the problem for the alignment, wheel, and two new tires. If not, be prepared to spend a bit more.

And no, of course they don't warranty your crashing/drifting into a curb.

first I've got to say, WTF you don't have a drift car, sucks learing the hard way. So i'm guessing your suspension is going to be ok and unless you're having any odd noises i would guess your axle is ok also. I haven't checked the setup first hand but i'm guessing that it's a lateral arm.

hey man, sorry to hear abt the damages,

take the car to a local mechanic that does alignment, it should cost alot less than what mercedes offers, and you can check out the classifieds, or ebay for one used OEM rim (which 17 are u running on!? the 7 spoke style B or the 5 spoke ones?) but good luck

sometimes it's better to learn the hard way. I'm just bustin your ***** a little. We've all done stupid things before and are better now because of it. Live and learn. Good luck with all of this. Your best bet is to take it to a good alignment shop and let them put it up on the machine to align it. They will be able to tell you what's wrong if they can't align it.

Drifting yet hit the front wheel, not the rear on the curb. Either overcorrected or understeered and wasn't drifting at all.

I bet you'll cost close to $1K to fix:
1 new wheel ($300)
2 new tires ($400)
alignment ($100)
anything else damaged (parts + $100/hr labor)

I'm more worried about your steering rack over the axle. Have you been underneath the car to inspect for damage? You really need to get the car up, take off the covers and inspect the suspension components. Depending on the angle of your hit. You could have tweaked a control arm.

Is the car bucking under heavy braking?

Let us know the outcome.

Learning how the limits of your car... priceless.

Wait, if it's the front wheel... Isn't that understeer? I'm totally confused here.

THAT'S NOT A DRIFT, THAT'S CALLED PLOWING.

I'm so confused.

This is also my first RWD car (my first car at that), and I don't go drifting, and I'm two years younger than you.

anthuny, don't listen to him, he likes to get on his high horse and be holier-than-thou.

definitely lesson learned, everyone at no matter what age does something stupid. plus, your tires could be going bald and that may have been the issue...

sounds like what happened to me... It was raining and I was in DTLA and I made a left turn in my w202 C280 and given the conditions, gave it too much gas. The car did close to a 360. Luckily, no one was around and I regained control of the car. That taught me quite a few things. (My Pirelli P6000's were just about done too and that's probably what caused some of it. But that car also had 205 width non-staggered tires and only W mode in the tranny and no ESP. I have more fun in this car b/c I have 235's and 265's and ESP.)

Lol... I hope not! That'd be hilarious! C230 doesn't have a lot of torque... plus it's harder to control a car when there is no Limited Slip Differential. Glad everything came out alright.

Yep, I figured you tweaked the control arm.....

Pat, whats with you always bringing your age into discussions? Just curious. But in any case, Pat is right, your car didn't drift, it plowed with understeer.

I would first like to apologize for committing the "ball bashing", as this was honestly not my original intention and I realize that I do come off as quite the insensitive person here and I'm not helping as much as I could in this case.

Lastly, I mentioned my age because of what Anthuny said over here. I guess it's not really applicable.

Anthuny, you're an intelligent person who can face the music when you do something wrong. Most people who do have accidents in their automobiles rarely admit their fault so readily; however, you are perhaps some of the few who are mature enough to realize sometimes it's their own driving when they hit something and they would usually blame it on anything but themselves. Lastly, I don't consider this as a "stupid" mistake, it's just a mistake, perhaps you're a little too hard on yourself.

I've seen much more stupid mistakes. Someone tried to drift and grab the e-brake and grabbed something else (that also had a handle) that shouldn't have been in the car to begin with. Next thing I know, we hit the curb and I'm thrown into the window.

Lastly, regarding your tire pressures, you might wish to consider in the future to have the front at an even lower PSI to prevent plowing.

sorry to hear that. some of us learn how to drive the hard way. It took a 2000 328Ci to teach me that. don't speed on the street and don't do fast turning in rain.
