If I was looking at 2 used cars the same price, one with ext warr and one without, sure I'd buy it WITH the warr. BUT if the car with the ext warr was $1000 more I wouldn't buy it.
Let's assume there are two types of buyers, those that would pay more for a car with an extended warranty, and those that wouldn't. I guess you're one that wouldn't but there are most likely others who would (and do). For example, when people buy a certified used automobile from a Mercedes dealer, they are given a one year, 100k warranty and many purchase an additional 2 years at $1,100 or so. So people do pay the extra $1,000 for an extended warranty. If I had purchased a used Mercedes, I know that I would have.

Obviously, we each would approach this differently, but then, we're different people. Thanks for your comments though. I really do appreciate them.

a lot of variables there....mileage and remaining orig warranty....I bought a NON-CERTIFIED I30 that had 1 year and about 20k miles left on the orig warranty. Certifying the car was about $2500-3000 more if I remember !

I figured that was enuff time to fix anything that was "not right" with the car (the ole check eng lite was an issue).

have a good weekend !

Even if it doesn't add any value it will give you more options when time comes to sell your car, because people who are looking for a warranty covered car will be interested in your car. In case you find someone who doesn't want it you can always ask the dealer for a refund.

However if you plan on keeping the car, I'm not sure if is worth it. Will stuff worth 1600 + interest brake in three years?

Is anyone with an older Merc out there? How expensive is service alone? Do big ticket items brake?
