$130 for MB to recognize my cd changer??

I bought the MB in-glove 6 disc changer and installed it, but the head unit doesnt seem to recognize the changer exists (showing "no cd changer" on the display). I figure I have to have the car's computer updated to look for the cd changer. According to previous threads here, this doesnt usually happen, but it can happen.

I call around to the dealers here (northern VA) and the closest dealer wants $130 to do it. $130 bucks to update the chip? What is involved in this that it would cost so much money? I bought the CD changer and installed it myself in order to save money.

I remember reading about cutting the battery power for a while. Then when power is restored, the computer searches for options. Try that first - cut the ground (not the pos).

Worst case, you lose your clock time and the engine adaptation to your driving style.

My Audio 10 CD was not recognized after installation and battery disconnect. I had my car serviced to adjust the Bose AudioPilot and my technician made the appropriate changes for the Audio 10 CD at the same time so I wouldn't have to pay for it.

When I had the MB CD changer installed by the dealer, they installed the software recognized the changer. I believe I also read this on another previous posting. The dealer charged me $120 to install the unit - also included a bracket that did not come with the original kit and cd-changer.

I thought all the dealer had to do was hook up the laptop to the computer, and just enable the cd changer (just like what they do to enable the Xenon's). $130 is over 1 hour of labor..kind of high just to enable a cd changer. Wish there's a way we can get a hold of that software! Hehe...

That's how we do it with the Audi's and VW's with a VAG Com. There must be someone out there who makes programming for this car like RossTech does. It's outrageous how much they want for these things and then to charge that much to turn it on is ridiculous...
