Poll: C32 problem,, do you feel this in your C?

Do you feel a clicking sensation+noise when you wiggle your steering wheel around(2-3 inches play)?

Mine does it with or without car being started, key in the ignition but steering is not locked, or when the steering is locked(but not to confuse with the steering lock)!

Here is the full explanation of the problem:

I am having problem on my C32 and the dealer seems unable to figure out what the problem is!

If I wiggle the steering wheel around left and right(2-3 inches play) I will feel a "clicking" sensation in it as well as a noise when it does the clicking. The dealer replaces 2 steering racks as well as taking the front struts part and putting them back and the noise/clicking is still there! The dealer stripped the steering colume down to only the steering wheel(no airbag), no stalks, and steering shaft exposed and the clicking is till there! And the feeling is there with or with out the car being started, steering locked or not!

I can feel the same sensation on a brand new 2003 C240 on the showroom(not as bad as mine) but I don't feel it on my friends new C!

My question is, how common the problem is in all C-class cars?
Do you feel the same thing if you wiggle the steering around?

Please reply, thanks!

See Garage
My C320 made a single "clunk" sound with a slight wheel vibration when the steering wheel was turned right through the 5 o'clock position or left through the 7 o'clock position, and the sound repeated at the same positions when returning the wheel to the 12 o'clock (straight ahead) position. Sound and vibration got louder and more pronounced as the car sat in the sun and warmed up throughout the day (hardly noticeable at startup in the garage early in the morning). Happened with engine running or not, steering wheel unlocked.

The dealer traced it to something rigid catching against the steering column under the dash, and fixed it. Sorry, but that's all they told me. The situation has not returned. Don't know if this is similar to your "click" sensation, just an idea for consideration.

Mine does it regardless of where the initial position of the steering wheel is. Any time I wiggled them, I feel it!

I have never noticed anything like you describe.

Maybe I am not sensitive to it.
