I couldn't start the engine today!!!

My 234 days old C240 couldn't allow me to start the damn engine,
the MB emergency arrived saying the main battery is dead, they replaced a temp one & took it to service centre for check up tomorrow, anyone experienced the same thing as mine before?

I remember someone mentioning in a previous post that the stock battery is pretty weak. Maybe they will give you a battery upgrade.

Our 2000 C230 wouldn't start one morning, but it was because my dad left the key in the ignition all night.

Andrew,

Why does leaving the key in the ignition cause the engine not to start?

The proximity chip device in the key arms all the security features (non-smartkey), which draw current. With a smart key, the same happens, as well as providing a drain on the smart key's battery. Apparently the key and the car negotiate continually to provide an engine run authorisation signal.

raymond got it right, just by inserting the key certain devices are running (and therefore running down the batt.)

Same thing happen to me, you were lucky it happens in your garage, mine was dead on my local 7 11 store, pretty embarrasing. A merc with 19 " and hood pop up open :p . Well make sure the mechanic who service your car top up your battery's water.
Did you get 2 weird msg like esp and bas was offline?? mine did, it has to drive for 40 km to reactivate it again

Last year my Grandfather's C280 Sport gave off a loud "bang" in the garage. He called roadside and they opened the hood to find the battery exploded for no apparent reason. Anyway, almost every hose in the car needed to be replaced because the battery acid ate through them. Luckily the car was still under warantee.
