Not closed, just in a different part of MBWorld cuz it had no relation to the w203. Oh well...hahaha...guess some people are sensitive when they're not the center of attention? Who knows.

Wow, the idea for sub-sections is brilliant!!
+1 for carrying that out
Majority of the Mods aren't all that big, bad, and mean. Just the odd few...
But it seems as though everyone's got the idea.

A bucket on wheels
Wow i didnt think my rant would blow up so much! I have cooled down a bit and as an older member of the forum i can tell you that i have too seen the way this forum has evolved and i am not too happy at the way it is progressing.
We should NOT tell people to STFF. It's that simple. Answer their question! I remember when i got my C class i asked a simple tint question and was told to STFF. The question involved different films and which ones affect the navigation system and also tint places in LA. All questions with answers that evolve over time. A good tint place a year ago might not be so good today. I am not going to search old threads that answer my question but might be false today.
It's simply being polite. Don't be rude to new members and tell them to search when in the same amount of time you took to tell them to search, you could have answered the question. Answering question will also encourage more partcipation. This forum will be DEAD if everyone searched since m ost topics have been beaten to death. I am being sarcastic when i say to close the w203 section down because there really is nothing new to talk about. Little changes here and there maybe but that's about it.

RBrenton,
Can we split this thread into a thread in the "comments" section of MBworld, since osme of the comments could equally be applied to all sections, not just the W203.
Drex,
Since you've been cleaning up a lot lately, would sub-forums help you organize threads?

Geezus Louizus, is this thread still going?
Sub forums for the W203, eh? Since when is the C-Class forum any more important than the 20+ other car specific forums? Who is going to make sub forums for all the others, as well? You guys don't want much, do you?
As for the idea itself... There already exist threads (and whole forums) dedicated to all these topics:
W203->DIY..........Done already, see W203 STICKY https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/108681-aftermarket-oem-modifications-diy-faq-s.html
W203->Performance/Technical..........Done already, see Performance Upgrades and Tuning Forum
W203->Appearance/Care..........Done already, see Detailing and Automotive Care Forum
W203->Gallery/Show'nShine/Pics..........Done already, see W203 STICKY Official C-Class Picture Thread
I have a C-Class, too, but this site really isn't "all about us!"
Sorry gang, the mods are showing patience by tolerating this silly thread. But mercy, enough is enough. Please close this so we can move on!

In regards to the search feature...
I do agree multiple threads on the same subject really waters down the efficiency of the search feature.
I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user and I still have trouble finding what i'm looking for with this site's search feature.
But one thing is usually a gold mine in the nonsense threads. Members who take the time to link to other relevant threads!!
Thank you to those who take the time to link to the good threads or merge similar threads.

As for the stickies, I find them worthless other than for a list of mods, they don't get into the detail required and often don't have enough links to relevent info on the subjects in other threads.
The stickies are also annoying, they take up a lot of room at the start of the section.
This thread has been exploring ideas of why the W203 section sucks lately. Many long-time members have noted this section has gone downhill and are making suggestions to make it better. Forgive us for trying to suggest a better way.
BTW, I have a thread in the "tech talk section", look at how many responses it got due to how many W203 members actually read that forum, do a poll, I bet 95% of W203 members have never checke dout the tech sections here.

I feel I've fallen on my sword for this forum in the past, and suggestions are always appreciated. But there is only so much we can practically do.

As a newish member (I'm more frequent on a certain UK MB site) I've found there's a lot more information on this forum. Getting to it is a bit of an art.
I agree it can appear to be difficult to find information. I guess part of it comes down to how you do your search, it's a bit like how you search in google etc. There's a particular way to do it that people need to learn / understand.
I've found many of the members on here are very very helpful and have conversed with a few via PM. I find that more of you in the US carry out mods than back in the UK.
We had a similar discussion on our UK forum a while back. Ours is split into categoreis, bodywork, electrical, wheels & tyres (sorry tires) etc. We don't have a split by model type (W203, W211, W140 etc). Some people have suggested that it be split into model types but this has been resisted! Many members actually find that they can help or learn from each other regardless of the model. In fact in many cases there are similarities, e.g. W203 / W209, W220 / W/CL215 etc.
Keep up the good work!!!

I think I've offered some options that satisfy the need for information, more pragmatic than suggesting restructuring the entire site just to benefit a few, who doubtless will find more to complain about even then.
Really, this circular debate is going nowhere.

Its not like all ~18K threads have to be organized. Do a few at a time when members notice them or when moderators are merging topics.

Is it me, or is every word in this thread, Blah?
I mean I'm looking at the page, and all I see is
'blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah.....'
Oh yeh blah blah blah blah blah....
yawn...how boring. :
I feel like that dog in the far side cartoons....
Oh, and Death to newbies!
Yeh, lets just kill 'em.

Not surprising at all. I'm sure those bent on posting new threads rather than searching existing ones have no more patience for looking around the site for alternative info sources.

In this thread alone I see the overwhelming majority of people admitting the search functionality is terrible and suggesting ideas to fix it.
Debates only go nowhere when you close yourself off to change, since you're closed off, the debate is over for you, buh bye, maybe a few others accepting of change will continue it.
I find when I need technical information I head over to MBklasse.com due to how its structured its much easier to find. To those with a sproblem with the search function here, try that site, or the Mercedes UK sites (http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/ or http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/) and report back here if you like the format better and it helped with your search.
