Initial acceleration lag on c230 7 speed
I have a 2006 c230 7 speed, 3 weeks old. When I accelerate hard from a stop, the first 1-2 seconds the car feels bogged down then the acceleration is excellent after that. This happens even with the trans on "S" Is this normal? If so what can be done to improve it without voiding the warranty?

yes, the sensation you are describing is the result of a condition known as "automatic transmission". the solution: return your car to the nearest dealership and pick up a 6 speed manual. this solution will not void any warranties whatsoever.

Yes, I have noticed that with my wife's 06 c230 7-sp automatic. I am guessing that is just how MB made the transmission, probably has to do with the gear ratio. While it is cool to know the car has 7 gears, I wonder if it is really necessary. And unless one is cruising at 120mph+ (or something very fast), I don't see the fuel-saving advantage either.
But the good thing is the wife actually likes the way her c230 behaves. The acceleration is perfect in her opinion, very easy to control at low speeds.
So, if you don't like the auto, you can risk ruining the automatic by semi-manually keeping it in 1/2 when launching, or go trade it in for one with a clutch you control.

But it is to my understanding (and I may be wrong!), that the lower gears in the automatic tranmission is used to lock in the gear for towing and dealing with hills. I thought they are not really designed for going quicker.

And yet another thread about that indecisive 7 speed. Hmmm...sounds like a pattern
I hated it. If you gotta have more than 5 gears in the slushy, The GM/Ford 6 Speed auto is a better behaved tranny.
