If Mercedes installs a COMAND after delivery, they suggest mounting the antenna on top of the instrument cluster, under the dash pad. Easy trip for the wire down to the head unit from there.

I don't use an outdoor NAV antenna. I NAV on my laptop, and just toss the USB antenna on top of the dash. It works fine through the window. I use DeLorme Street Atlas software. It's only $ 80.

the MB Comand NAV antenna is only long enough to mount under the top side of the instrument cluster or far end towards the front of the windshield.

aftermarket NAV if you get a Pioneer one they usually place it under the top dash vent.

There are no outside antenna needed.

Really? Will it work? I was thinking in the same place of my xm, which is the hood drain (the small rain pocket) but not always get the best reception. So under the top dash vent, huh? I would've never thought about that place, I'm wondering how is the reception. Thanks Frank
