Even with an MBA I can still be dumb sometimes...
If the person spoke to me when I pressed the button, then how is it that I'm "completely removing any way for it to output" to my speakers? In both the C240 and ML350 I press the button and received responses.
Maybe if I had attempted to do the install myself then it would as you said. However, I had it professionally done. I saw a series of test done to ensure that I wouldn't receive any error codes. During one of the test, the SRS light came on. My installer then knew what not to mess with. I should note that I didn't remove my Bose Speaker, just bypass the amp and remove the factory sub. Replaced the amp, added another amp for the sub and no factory OEM functions were missing.

Yes...i had the fiber optic Bose. However, the door speaker are just that...spearker. So, my installer simply connected wires from the Z1 to the speakers. I'm sure I could discuss it with him ad nauseam and figure out the logic behind it...but hey, ulitimately it isn't that important to me since it works.

Ok, I looked into this some more. The Teleaid system's speaker is completely independent of the audio system. It uses its own speaker in the rear view mirror/light area. So no, you will not lose the teleaid feature completely, but you will lose the ability to enter numbers.

I was told by the local Car Toys shop that even if I did get the Z1, i'll need to replace all the stock Bose speakers due to a non-standard design. True / False?

The better way is to replace the Bose amp with an amp that can handle 2ohm speakers, and drive the speakers with that.

Not true...take it from a member. I have replaced both OEM headunits in the C240 and ML350 with AVIC Z1s. I still kept my standard Bose door speakers. The sub, however, was thrown in the trash. We replaced the amp for the door speakers and added another amp for the sub.

Regarding enterning #s...you may be correct. However, the Z1 has a number pad...i'm not certain if the system for teleaid is using tone as a method for picking up the dialing. However, if a live person answered, you could simply tell the numbers or tell them your issues without needing to enter numbers...once again, I am admittedly a novice and don't know for sure...

3)Can you plug and play directly into the fiber optcis or not?
4)what type of errors do your car display?

2) The speed sensor (VSS) is conected. You will have to take the fuse box out, at the engine compartment and connect the wire for the VSS at...https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...t=speed+sensor
3)No. The fiber optics are history. We had to bring the speaker wires from the head unit(AVIC D2), in the back to the bose amp. Over there we took the bose amp out and conected the wires from the D2 to the wires thar are going to each speaker, minus the center dash speaker, and the subwoofer in the back. So the head unit powers the 4 speakers in the car right now.
We replaced the BOSE amp with another 2 OHM apm, to power the bose sub.
That is all.
4) No erors. When you go in the dash menu, where the audio feature is, it sais NO AUDIO.
I am still waiting for the steering wheel interface to get here.
I hope this helps.

I just bought an Alpine IVA-W200 which is close to the dual din deck you installed in this tutorial. When I took it to an audio ahop for them to install it they said it was going to be around $700-800 to install. They said that I needed an amp and cross over wires or something I'm assuming to keep the functionality of the fiberoptics like the volume control on the steering wheel. All I want is that deck to work properly, play my songs and videos and power my sub correctly. Do you think I could pint out the tutorial and give it to them because they do not seem to understand what I want or theyre just trying to rip me off and make like $800 for a simple install for someone who knows what there doing.

If your car has fiber optics (not all do), you have to ditch them. If you have fiber optics, the best you can salvage is the stock speakers. If you have fiber optics, you'll need a new sub and amp.

The steering wheel controls have nothing to do with the fiber optics -- that is CAN bus.

and how do you find out if your car has fiber optics?

It is possible to drive the stock speakers (minus the sub) with the headunit. You'll need to run the outputs to the stock amp location (the stock amp will be removed), then attach them there. You should really just get a new amp, and it must be capable of handling 2ohm speakers (the factory speakers are 2ohm).
