Now a days there arent many of the head unit type gps units that do not have all of the above if not just the vss wire (vehicle speed sensor)

I can only speak for the pioneer, and it has vss and gyros as it actually is pretty fun with driving in stupid mode with the c32 as it shows the g's pulled on hard cornering.

I have a Pioneer D3 and it's great, everything but the Navi. I never really use the Navi so it wasn't a big deal to me. That Clarion does look really nice

I see the clarion menus and info very intuitive, but I like the pioneer exterior aspect better! (only buttons at the lower space, the rest its all monitor)

But the pioneer its a bit more expensive, and here I'm looking on functionality, principally in the Navi mode and with the Bluetooth.

Help comes to those who help themselves. Searching will return all of the information you need regarding installing your HU. However, it would help us help you if you gave us a clue as to your car's year and current sound system. Welcome to the forums.

Question Avic D3 and Lg Voyager

Hey I was wondering if anyone with the Avic D3 has tried to connect it to a LG Voyager I seem to be having a problem with the phone not staying in discoverable mode even when I turn it on it says that the phone will only be discoverable for three minutes does anyone know whats wrong?

Three minutes, wow that's a long time, usually phones stay in discovery mode for 1 minute. I have sync'ed my LG Voyager with a few BT devices including stereo BT and I can tell you that LG does BT right, better than Samsung, better than Motorola. Check howardforums.com, they maybe better at answering your question.

Unfortunately for some reason Pioneer's implementation of bluetooth connectivity with their devices requires that the bluetooth device always be in "discoverable" mode to auto-sync when the unit starts up (this may have to do with updating the battery and signal meters; I'm not sure). This means that any phone that does not have an "always on" discoverable mode will not auto-sync with Pioneer HUs, which includes the original RAZR (which only had a 1 minute discoverable mode toggle).

If your LG doesn't support staying in discoverable mode, then this feature will be unavailable. Sorry. However, you should still be able to manually connect through the menus, but this sort of defeats the whole purpose of the system.

AVIC-Z1 installed with Harmon Kardon Bypass

Finished installing th AVIC-Z1 in our 2005 C230 Sedan. For those of you that's thinking about doing this, definitely get the CA-R-PI.133, it makes it so much easier with the speed and reverse signal, even if you don't want to keep the steering wheel controls.

For those interested, the H/K amp is in the passenger side in the trunk, right next to the cavity toward the rear of the car. Once out, the wires to tap for speaker out are:

Front Left + : Green
Front Left - : Green/Brown
Front Right +: Orange
Front Right - : Orange/Brown
Rear Left + : Pink
Rear Left - : Pink/Brown
Rear Right +: White
Rear Right - : White/Brown

I didn't use these, but in case you're wondering:
Sub +: Blue
Sub - : Blue/Brown

The system sounds so much better than stock, even though I kept all the stock speakers. The Bluetooth and iPod connector are nice too.

Nice job!

Would this fit in an '06 without the harmon kardon system?

Also, could you post pictures of what it looks like (both on and off)?

Thanks!

Yes, without the Harmon Kardon system, the install is even easier, since you wouldn't need to run wires to the trunk. Just use the wiring harness from the CA-R-PI.133 adapter and you're set. The pictures aren't too different from what others have posted, but I'll snap a few when I get home.

Do you have a Tweeter by you? I usually get all my systems/audio goods from there, and they do good work.

I used the Scoche dash kit mentioned in this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=206932

The installed pics pretty much looks like the installs on the thread above.

With the H/K amp, it only uses fiber optic input. As far as I know, sound is still analog, so there are no fiber optic output. Therefore, the speaker out must be copper, and can be tapped if you replace the H/K amp, which was what I did (I used the headunit's built in amp).

gaogi,

can you do a DIY write up on your install. how did you bypass the amp? and how does the wiring go? i think alot of us on this board with HK setup want to go double din and would help tremendously if you did a DIY step by step.

thanks!
