Is it necessary to replace the amp(s) and all of the speakers? I want to do a simple swap of the headunit for a Z2 (with bluetooth, ipod, and steering wheel control add-ons) without the hassle or expense of changing everything else in the car...

Thank you so much for the write up, this is very helpful information. But to be honest I have not figured out the details yet, I need to take everything apart and see what I find (how many cables, what is wired to where, etc). once I figured out the reality of what is where I can make a more detailed decision. From what I am reading in your post it looks like I will end up with on 4 channel and one 5 channel amp to not loose stereo… (I have a friend at hand who knows way more about stereo systems then I do, so I will do some brainstorming with him once we took my car apart and had a few beers, that usually leads to great [or very destructive] results)...

Anyone have information on where I can buy a CARPI131 to get my steering wheel controls to work, and is this compatible with a 2007 C230 Sport? Thanks in advance

Everyone went to Carpi131 but I decided on Pac's Swi-X+Swi-Can for the steering wheel button interface and they are made here in the US thus shipped from here and they are even sold on Ebay...

Guys, where did you connected the 3.5mm (headphone type) plug of the interface!?

I have all connected except that plug! Off course my steering wheel buttons aren't working, but I have Pioneer at my cluster!

I don't have the connector n.2, my radio didn't bring it, but I have the connector n.3 with all connections plugged to an 4 channel amp!

The unit is working 100% even without the connector n.2!

What is missing?!

By no means a pro but I thought that plugs in to the IR socket in the back of the HU if it has remote control available

Question

Now question I have on steering wheel adaptor: I am using the Pac's SWI-X+SWI-CAN(one plugs into the other then to radio/metra harness.)

1. Cam someone draw me what wires to tap into from the radio and metra harness? To install the SWI-X+SWI-CAN?

Sunroof controls and window controls acting up

Ok got my AVIC D3 in and I have to say I really like the unit, and will like it more once i can get the Steering wheel working.

One question, it appears that after installing my sunroof controls are a little wacky to open the sunroof normally I could just pull back on the button once and it would open all the way. now it only goes back about 4" and stops then I pull back again for another 4". Also the windows used to go all the way up with on pull on the window switch and now I have to pull and hold to get the window up.

Does this have anything to do with the Avic Install / CAN system?

Car is a 2007 C230 Sport.

I'm using a BEST harness that the my car-fi supplier indicated fit the car's harness (which it does perfectly)

I appreciate any and all help.

I bumped into the same problem.
That little "Jack" connector is to go to the connector 2 behind your unit. There is no plug in the connector 2 for that !! true! actually you have to conect the harness provided in the box to the connector 2 then you will see this plug on the harness.

IF YOU DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY THEN YOU MUST REPOGRAM EACH WINDOW AND SUNROOF IF THEY DON'T GO AUTO UP OR DOWN...JUST OPEN EACH WINDOW OR SUNROOF ALL THE WAY AND HOLD FOR LIKE 5-10 SEC AND YOUR SET.

Did you buy your Z2 in a box? coz it should be in there. If you bought it from someone who opened it, ask him, he might have it.
