Intake theory - V6 models 2001-2005

what about extending the ram air vents to be more flush with the CL style grill.. The fins on the grill push the air up, creating pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if with a KN filter and some rubber fabrication of a connection from the intake to the grill would yield more true COOL air rather than air from the radiator cavity. I'm gonna give it a shot.

but with that empty airbox, wow...i can tell you the growl is amazing in sound

At the same time you should send your headers for coating (reduce under-hood temps by 90 degrees, increase exhaust scavenging) for another 7-8HP.....
Build one for my car too please.

Put some shields around them (send them to HPC Performance and have them coat the side facing the engine to deflect heat) and you will see improvement in both power and t-response.

I talked to the rice shop about ceramic coating the headers. and they said I should UPGRADE my headers before wasting money coating it.
I also have a heat shield up on the filters.
EMPTY AIRBOX, meaning no filters inside the airbox, since the cone filters already do the dirty job. no point of using the sheet filters.
oh yeha, I took a TEST run in the new setup (very cold weather here in NY)
oh my gosh man...the GROWL WAS SO F-ing loud.
but the Y-pipe was a bit too big, and the piping was a bit small...they gonna do a 3" instead of 2.5" now. so awaiting again.

^Best performance is without a box at all, a LARGE conical filter with a shield (ceramics are not the answer - Jet Hot or HPC's coating are far superior and will yield significant results) will give you the best power/sound combo.

Hmm... what sort of cost would that be? I'm guessing that the coating would be the most expensive

Two filters and mandrel bending a pipe to fit would be about $250....

Oh, I thought it was the intake pipes that were to be coated... so, there wouldnt be any drawbacks to coating the headers? I'm not so sure about that idea because the labor to have them taken off and put back on seems like it would be costly...

I dropped by the rice shop again today, (to drop off the brabus lip for paint), they said they MIGHT be able to make me custom headers with a cat, but not guarenteed the sensor would go off. its not as easy as a jap car.

mercus i dont know about the cone filter... there is alot of heat in that engine bay, i would think the OEM setup with fresh air would be better... Lets get someone to dyno it so we really know
maybe we could get the cones in front of the radiator? Take out the grill and make something custom to cover it up, but yet open enough to see the filters.. might be kinda cooL!

You coat the headers in order to keep the heat inside them - thus the engine stays cooler (heat in the headers and in the engine bay). The extra heat in the headers increases scavenging (pulling more exhaust from the head, improving flow). Coating the intake pipes on the other hand, would pull heat into them and make them less efficient.
Cone filters are more exposed to heat, but with a shield surrounding it and coated headers, you definitely see an improvement in both throttle response and power. They flow way more air that the OEM box.
If you buy headers raw (no coating or paint), they are less expensive. The coating does make them cost maybe $100 more than ceramic coating from the factory, but it's worth it. Jet-Hot and HPC coatings are non-organic and can be welded and provide significant benefits.
New headers are usually less than $1,000. With an exhaust, ECU and TB/CAI make for a MUCH more efficient motor = better mileage, throttle response and significant power gains. Also, it's good for the motor (runs cooler).
