Question Adding an audible door lock confirmation

Anyone know how to add an audible confirmation when you lock the doors with the remote? (similar to the BMW's that have the chirp) (and don't tell me to buy a BMW:p )

That would be the famous Netherlands setting, often misidentified as the Norway setting. Do a search and you'll find all kinds of posts about this. It must be done at the dealer using the DAS computer.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

I have asked my dealer several times in the past and they said it could not be done, but now I know :p

Why do I want this? several times I have returned to the car and found the doors were not locked. I am sure that I locked them, so the audible is just another safeguard.

If you lock the car, within 10 - 12 feet, most people should be able to hear the lock mechanism activate. This works for me, however I couple it with looking at the rear, front, or mirror marker lamps to flash indicating locked mode. I find most cars locking/audible horn to be a mild eritant, like soap in the eyes. My Chrysler 300M does this in the locking mode (silent during unlock), but the beep is less than a micro second, so the decibles are not to bad. Many cars seem to give a full on beep during the lock, and some beep at the unlock. I don't really like to hear my neighbors come home and locking the car in the middle of the night. Let's keep it silent.

Grn300m:

Well it's a good thing he lives in Hawaii... at the speed of sound and given prevailing winds, you won't hear him lock his doors for hours after he does it

I for one want to hear it before I decide... BMW had a nice quiet chirip/chime sound - can anyone record and MP3 the sound and post here? PLEASE!?

An easy way to do this, if I remember from when I read my manual is to unlock the car. If I remember correctly, if you use the key fob to unlock the car and don't open any doors for 60 seconds, it will lock itself again. I'll go double check, but it would be an easy way to get the same job done w/out losing the panic alarm.

OK OK OK, I've heard about the chirps and blinks, and the Netherlands settings, but what other settings are there? they are all coded based on country, but what do they mean?

Locking/unlocking with a noise only draws attention to when you want to get into or out of the car and may not be a safe idea. MB is wise to leave it out. I feel that the flashing lights and door lock noise is more than sufficient.

Gee, I read that "Adding an audible door lock confirmation" meant that Charles wanted to know how to add the audible confirmation, not how dumb he is for wanting to get it done.

Charles, I had it done to my ccoupe, and like it a lot. I don't find it an IRRITANT at all. I printed out the instructions from here, and gave it to the dealer, and they did it without any issues. Also did the "No Phone" bs on the screen removed, which I'd recommend if you don't have an integrated phone.

And people say that I'm a little harsh at times. At least I'm usually on point. Sheesh!

Most techs are idiots and don't know how to use all the menus on the MB diagnostic computer.

I want the "No Phone" screen gone, the radio turned to 0dB with speed, not 6dB, and possibly the 3 blinks changed to 1 blink. I am going to find the exact menu names and itesm that change these settings and give them to the service manager when I go in (search the forum, they are in here somewhere). The salesman and service amanager I met both already said they don't know about all the toptions that can be reporgrammed as I was explaining these kinda things to them, but most are willing to learn, so if you approach them with a half-decent attitude and some instructions you might find you'll have a better realtionship with these people, and maybe get the ML or E class loaner next time (my hopes!).

Does anyone know what the other country settings do? 3 blinks, 1 blink, no blinks, blinks with beep, beep only, ect...?

Has anyone tried the Netherlands settings in Canada or Australia just to see if the car will beep? We don't get the alarm by default like the US, I'd be interested to know if the alarm is really there, just not activated (like the hidden hatch release button).

You might want to search this forum using "DAS settings". That should give you some answers on some instructions.

Let us known what you find out regarding the other country settings.
