My C230K was built, will ship soon

My salesman at MB of Greenwich Ct called today to say my C230 w/ Orion/Oyster, 6 speed, C2, C4 has been built and will depart on the either the 12/22 or 12/26 ship from Germany. Should be here in about 3 weeks (~2nd week of Jan.).

Dr Mike, did you hear from Jordan?

Dr Mike pointed me to his dealer in CT who'll sell them for 3% over invoice, which is at least $1,000 off list.

They had a 6speed scheduled but not taken, and it was early enough that I got to select color and options. It sounded like either the 6 speed isn't popular, or maybe the dealers pre-order most with autos (which is what my local stealership does). I also got the impression that the tranny wasn't a changeable item. Are they allocated a certain %age of manuals/autos?

I faxed him a signed $1,000 deposit slip on 11/12. He said it would be built the last week of Dec, and would arrive the last week of Jan, or 1st week of Feb. Thus, I was not expecting it to be built until next week, so I had not called him at all since I gave the deposit. He said most of the customers call every week to check the status and that I must be a patient person (proof that you cannot read someone over the phone).

I was actually shaking in '98 when we paid $43,000 for a new '99 ML320. It scared me to spend that amount of money on a truck. This time it's not so much money, so I'm not nervous about the money, only about whether I'll like the car enough to keep it for a long time. I've also not had a rwd car for 20 years, so driving that in the snow is going to be scary.

I also have to find out the best way to sell my old car (a 97 Sube, not the ML).

OK, so I guess I am one of the anxious ones, since I called Jordan yesterday. However, it was only my 2nd call since placing the order. He probably called Bud as a preemptive strike after getting my call.

My impression was that they had wide discretion in specifying the car, because I was able to order a silver, c5, auto without any delay.

We are looking forward to enjoying the auto downsizing, back to not having to haul kids around, since they drive themselves now.

If our college student who is waiting for the hand me down when the c arrives had known the salesmen's number, I am sure he would have been getting daily requests to expedite the order ("what do you mean Mercedes doesn't do next day air like Amazon.com?")
