New C270 cdi today
Hi
Have just come back from the collection centre in Bremen, Germany with my new car after 6 months wait. Now have 1000 miles on clock. Went around the factory and saw the shells being made for the c class, amazing. Car is brilliant, but would you believe it in 8 hours 2 stone chips on windscreen. Going in this morning to have new plates on and see if I can claim for windscreen on the 5 day insurance that Benz provided for my trip. Will give more details on what I saw at the factory soon when I have more time and can keep out my car.

Congrats on your new car .
Hope you get the stone chips fixed for free. It's a pain to drive on german autobahns. It doesn't matter how easy you take it, or how long distance you keep to the car in front of you. You still get paint/window chips...

Stone chips on windscreen were fixed for free. Took into dealer for PDI today. Must comment that service was excellent, started on time and took 2.5 hours including washing the car, let's hope this continues.

For anyone who is interested more details on my trip to the Bremen factory:
Produce C class saloon, estate and coupe and also SLK roadster, and the SL class.
Shells are produced on a plant 90% robots, each has a tag with all the customer spec on and the robots know what to complete on each shell based on this info. RH & LH are being produced at the same time on the same line, same with saloon, estate, and coupe all at the same time. All different colours. Such flexibility. This part of the plant was amazing to watch.
55% of all Mercedes are silver. Nearly all white Mercs go to USA.
Plant operates just in time for almost all of the parts. Suppliers have 2 weeks notice of what is being made and they have a 20 minute delivery window. A buffer of 1 hour is there to cope with any breakdowns on route.
A C Class wiring loom can be up to 1000 metres long and these are put together manually and take 1 hour to wire for 1 person.
16000 people work at the plant and they make 1000 cars a day.
It takes 3.5 days from start to finish to build a C Class.
They took time to point out that quality comes first and not quantity. I must admit I was impressed with their quality control.
We went around with 3 other people from UK, one had the SL 55 AMG on order for 4 years and was just picking it up.
