Reduce Oil Level!
I was cruising the other night down a popular hangout the other night. Not a lot of stop and go traffic but some. When all of a sudden. I get an error message on my dash that reads something like: "Engine oil too high, reduce oil level" Ofcourse being around mercedes often teaches me to ignore such things because my computer is probably bored and in the mood to play. so i ignored it and haven't seen it since. I'm just curious if anyone else has seen this one?

it was the 'downforce' created by your park bench wing, combined with the lighter weight of the cf hood and higher drag of the wide low profile 18's that threw your car into a temporary fit of anger....
It was just telling you to throw more RICE at the next wedding you go to.

xc240x I don't have a mercedes yet, but timmy have never had this happen. It did say add 1 quart once when I was with him and he used dipstick to check and it was a quart low. He added oil no more problems

Out Of Control!!
Ricky gets a little pissy about mods that aren't "correct" to him.
Take every anti-mod flame with several grains of salt; there's a lot of that on this forum, and yes it does get childish and silly.
As far as the original question, he should just monitor his oil level for the next couple of days. Since it hasn't happened again, I would just take it as a momentary blip, but keep an eye on the level. Too bad that the 240s don't have dipsticks that would be able to tell you what's really going on with the oil level.

The coupe seems to have a lot of these little quirks as well that seem to go away after awhile. If it continues, best to go and see your MB tech.
C230BoysGURL, chill out... I actually though what Rick said was funny! Just take that sort of thing in jest.
And the point if this post was..... ? he asked a real question, and he deserves a real answer.

This is not a coupe "problem."
I've seen this message on my Sedan twice. When the dealer completed my "A" service, they underfilled the oil by about 1/2 quart (according to dyno mode...It read 8 Qts before service, and 7.5 Qts after). I took it back and they topped it off. About two weeks later, I got the "Oil Level too high" notice, but I was able to clear it using the steering wheel controls. It reappeared a few days later, same remedy. It's now two months since my service, and no more such messages.
Because of the infrequency of the message, I'm thinking the oil is on the borderline between just right, and too much. In dyno mode, it reads 8 Qts, which is where it's supposed to be.

You can check the oil level:
>turn key to position 1
>hold down odo reset button for about forty sec. until you hear a beep
(write down the milage first, if your keeping track)
>push the steering wheel message button closest to the hub
>release both buttons
>turn key to position 2
I'm at 6.1 qts, 6K miles since changed. I don't know the ideal number, but this is "O.K." (plus/minus .5 qt.)

i have to make an appointment soon also... my visor mirror cover just fell off... the rubber volume knob on mt comand has lost all the rubber... my shift boot bezel is always coming off... and i think i might have a leak in the rear differential... plus that lil error message! anyways, i'm just really damn lazy, they had better cover all that under warrenty... or i'm gonna throw a fit in their showroom to scare off their customers, lol!
