Amusing reading this thread, haha, good job dealing with the troll Coup ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Don't have a coupe myself but I've hit 130 in my 4 door c230 sport. If anyone knows Virginia Beach area at all, Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel is where it needs to be done, around 3-4am. It's a bridge that goes into about a mile long tunnel under water (purpose is so ships can cross through the area as opposed to a draw bridge). Drop it in 3rd on the downhill into the tunnel and just roll. Nearly topped out 5th gear at 130, probably 133 is top out for 5th, then had 6th left to go...Cops can't sit in a tunnel, it's just two lanes and walls so as long as they're not in front of or beind you, you're golden!

I'm letting myself get sucked in here, but for certain I remembered the C Coupe in Italy specs stated the coupe was capable of going over 150 mph since they don't put a limiter.
For a price, you can have it removed even here in the States by a chip tuner.
Well, just a little poking around I found this.
Anyone speak Italian?251 kph = 155.964169 mph![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
That's one fast 4 banger. But as it's been pointed, why would anyone want to go that fast ANYWAY?! LOL!
Any questions?

Yes why would we want to go that fast eh? I guess for some people the adrenaline is just TOO MUCH!![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
Speaking of speed limiters, I always wondered what the purpose is of putting a speed limiter on a car in the USA at like 120, 130, or 140, or whatever??? I mean the highest speed limit in the whole country is like 75-80, so if you're hitting your speed limiter you are already driving waaaaaaay too fast

Living in the desert has some advantages... On several occasions on long trips through the empty (read - no other vehicles around!) I've set the cruise control well over 100mph and cruised for an hour+. Well, maybe 'cruise' isn't the right choice of words because I was nervous as hell about running into a stray highway patrol. I've done it both before and after I installed the sport suspension - car is very stable at speed either way. This is actually the only car I've been in where I can set the cruise for over ~80mph.
You want the speed limiter to be above the max speed limit in the country for ease of passing (think safety). Imagine trying to pass a car going 65~70 with a car that's limited to 80 mph, especially if like most clueless drivers they start to speed up a bit when you go to pass. When I pass, I like to get in/out of the other lane as quickly/safely as possible.
Yeah, mazda troll needs to go away...

Last time I decided to get on it, I nearly got popped.
After that, I decided no more.
But here in the Bay, there's on highway thats very smooth, with a slight curve, which at 130, you feel it pulling ha.
I'm talking the newer section of highway 85, but yeah, major bust if you get caught.
You'll be arrested, and your car impounded.
Last time, I did it, I was between exits, no one in front, no one behind or so I thought. When I got off the freeway, a guy pulled behind me, and a COP behind him! Christ, there was no one behind or ahead for miles when I did it. Where the hell did the cop come from? Must've been on the on ramp of that last exit
For certain he was going to pull me over, and then....he pullls the guy behind me over.
I swore I'd never do it again. Not worth it. But yeah, the car felt great. Stable, just fine at that speed.
Again recently I got on it just a little, not on the freeway, was accelerating...cop let me off,
I was probably 20 mph over the speed limit.
This is the reason I don't buy a faster car.
Got to drive an Audi S4 recently like I stole it through the mountains though...oh that was fun.
It's chipped, and puts out like 440 HP with a 6 speed....oh yeah.
It was a monday night, and no one was on any of the roads we took.
Yes, adrenalin junkie am I.
When I go to LA, I generally set the cruise control at 90-100 on I5.
It just feels perfect at that speed.

Wow, first of all I can't believe that everyone doesn't top out their cars like I do, lol. I took my coupe to 130 mph on the first night I had it. Also, I don't understand the people on here saying that the coupe is or isn't limited. Maybe this is just because I have the 6 Speed manual, but stock the car won't pass 130. This isn't because of a "chip" or anything, it is because in 6th gear at 6000(ish)rpm the car is going 130. It still pulls strong up to there, and I am sure that if it had another gear (or if the gears were longer) it would keep going, but that is the end of 6th and thus the top speed. BTW, this is an 02 manual coupe in the U.S. Specs may be different in other countries, I am just speaking from my own experience.

Your 6th gear is 130 at 6k?!? I know my car is completly different but I would think your ratio is slightly longer.. My third gear is about 90. I didnt get to finish a 3rd gear pull to see. Not the safest roads..

Hey MBfin,
Yeah, although that being said I haven't topped it out since I changed out the S/C pulley, so it may be higher now (some homework for tonight i think
). Anyway, the gear ratios on the manual 6 speed are very short. But realistically you dont need to go higher than 130 unless you are doing like a 1/2 mile drag strip or something. I happen to love the short gears because they are a big part of this car's great handling. No matter what the corner is like, low speed or high, there is an appropriate gear for it. It does mean that you do a lot of shifting, but I love the active driving, especially on the SF bay's twisty mountain/ canyon roads.
Speaking of which, maybe we should have a thread on fav twisties to drive your coupe on? For the coupe owners in my area, any of you hit Fish Ranch? Off of that there is this tiny little road, cant remember the name, that is incredible for our cars and i have driven up and down on it for hours late at night and never seen another car on it. I'll post the name when I find it.

I went down there with my 3 friends all on their sport bikes and they took up one lane and myself the next sometime in the afternoon. We all went real slow like 45 mph, had people honking and screaming at us because we wanted to let the cars in front of us get way ahead...then on the downhill we just let loose, one of them hit 162 on his bike

I wonder if your rear end ratio was changed?
Some folks changed diffs to get better off the line.
It's a royal pain in an auto, but no big deal in a manny.

I've hit 110 but that's it. I'm too scared of the car falling apart. My driving skills aren't the problem. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Geeze I can't even imagine 150. Passing people would be like... them standing and me going 100.... wow.

In what? Don't think I ever went that fast.
I maxed out a Euro spec Ferrari 308 once, did about 160, but the dash light was burned out, and I didn't spend much time looking at the speedo after I looked down once at about 148 and crossed 3 lanes.
Fortunately no one else on the road.

An 08' ZR1. We have this tollway that has a good 4 mile stretch without any curves etc and is dead around 2-3 in the morning. Never want to do that again.
Doubt anyone could control such speeds in average traffic.
My coupe was the first car I ever really tested. I remember the adrenaline I felt when I floored it and it red lined like nothing (in my eyes). When I tried it in the ZR1 my heart stopped from the drastic switch in cars.

90mph and yes hitting 80 does feel slow compare to my other cars. ![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
I would go faster, but now a days the CHP / govt is hungry for money and I don't feel like donating to them or the insurance company.

AMG's are governed to 155, and these days, I think they don't cap 'em.
Everyone wants to be part of the 200mpg club.
See the Brabus 'rocket' ?
Modded S V12 that does 220.
4 doors! You AND your friends will go places very fast.

No coupe here but hittin' 80 is for old ladies in the PA mountains. I get to 80 without trying on I-80 or I-84. Been to 110 but scared the missus so I try not to push it. Also, like everyone else, not trying to contribute to PA's budget or Geico Insurance Company.
