well..i might get flame for this..but i ready
Is it so important as to who foots the bill? i have an impression that some of you guys are stereotyping ppl who dont pay for their own car as spoilt rich kids....as though they wont be able to survive in this society.
I shall be honest enough to admit that my parents are kind enough to pay for this benz, but i will not tolerate any inaccurate labelling. Is there concrete evidence that ppl who doesnt pay for their own car will have a lower chance of survival (or getting another benz on their own, as one of the poster had suggested) ? I personally dont think so. ya, we might have heard more legends of this guy who went through so much and now, he have a ferrari, a SL or whatever. But we seldom hear about people who polish what they were born with, and bring it to a higher level.
I find it totally pointless to have this 2 polls as to who paid for their own car...maybe it is to boost your own ego by saying "well, kids around 18 do drive a benz, but it is not earn by them. But i have earned my benz ! "
I agree that earning your own benz feels a lot better then getting one from your parents, but please do not make the assumpation that we are spoilt, because 1 day.....when i have enough money to buy myself a SL...i will buy a car for my child too...provided he behaves
just my 2 cents

unless you buy your car yourself it's hard to completely appreciate it. believe me, i know. my parents gave me their 1995 altima after high school; i loved the car but i still considered it "their car". i traded it and bought a 2000 civic and paid for it completely... then i traded that in and bought my benz. there really is nothing that compares to the pride of knowing that you are driving something you love and that you've earned through productive work.
on the other hand, anyone who's had their benz given to them is blatantly spoiled... this isn't to say they're a brat, just spoiled. even if i make $500k a year, i won't be buying my 16 year old a $30k car.
being given a car doesn't make you a bad person, but you'll never appreciate it like the buyers will.
(bring on the flames)
ps - having said this, i would've loved to be given a benz, spoiled or not

Anyone who receives such lavish gifts is IMHO "spoiled". That doesn't have to mean that they're "spoiled brats" as Session has pointed out, just that.Originally posted by Xeon

Also as Session said, I would've loved to have been given a Benz too.
I was pretty much given a Jaguar for 6 months (Mom never drove it anymore) and 2 years later I bought my first car, a 1990 Camry. I respected MY car a lot more than MOM's car, even though my car was $3500, her car was $55K.
There just something about having paid for it yourself that you can ever get from having it given to you... or even being able to buy it without anyone's help (cosigner)... just can't explain it... but its kinda the feeling that you've "made it" in the world, that all your hard work and dedication has paid off, and nothing can replace that feeling.
Xeon, there are always exceptions to every rule. There are some "spoiled" people who respect their cars, and some who bought the car and never bother to take care of it...

i'm 23 and i just graduated from undergrad college, i got a good job and now i'm shopping for my first mercedes (C230). getting married, and a new apartment in october. noone pays my bills but me, myself and I. I have to pay every cent of my student loans also, there is no mommy and daddy in the picture anymore other than two loving people who support me (not financially). I think i would fit under the category that this poll is trying to convey. now if i could just decide on a dealer so i could get this car ordered.

Had my first Benz at 20. In 1981, it was a '67 200D. Loved that verticle speedometer.Originally posted by Kal Rubinson

31, paid for it myself (or will when it comes in...today?)
As far as rich brats who have parrents buy them $30K toys... they're hurting me big time. I need to sell my 12 year old Honda and with 18 year olds getting brand new cars from Daddy... it's evaporating my market! I need to find some kid who cuts grass and has saved up a couple of grand for a nice used car!
