Umm no.

Was the car fully warmed up? Your redline is at around 6000 rpms? You should be fine, just avoid doing that again.

You are in trouble. I would do an oil change ASAP and take an oil sample from the old oil to have it anallized. The engine might be compromized.
Not only you went all the way to 5000 RPM but you also kept it there for 5-6 seconds. That't bad. It could cost you a lot of monney to do repairs.

J.K. your car is fine. Nothing wrong with a little red lineing every once in a while.

VROOOOOOOOOOOM... KA BOOM!
HAHA

least you werent like my buddy in his 01 prelude. was downshifting from 5th to 4th... jumped over the gearbox and dropped it in 2nd [by mistake] at 90+mph... needless to say the engine seixed and he's left with a 3300lbs paper weight.

if its an auto, thats weird cause even if you were in manual mode, the gears would change automatically. manual is a diff story. But all in all, you should be fine.

next time be sure to check in your rear view mirror for any "spare" tranny parts you might have left behind

I get mine to 6500 sometimes while having fun, there's no harm, the ECU combined with drive-by-wire really won't let you abuse this car too much.

From: Edmonds... good bye SD
wont hurt it at all... in my old 190e... we were pushing it over 130 mph for quite awhile (several minutes... RPM's just few hundred RPM's from Redline (6,000k) i believe... and that was the old 2.6 engine...

these are high speed built cars that can handle high RPM's for extended amounts of time.. I would not worry at all. ALTHOUGH 1st gear revving high and leaving it, probably not something i would do often.

Not to be mean but I think he should worry for his driving skils. He sounds like he does not know how to drive a stick. The only reason someone would go up to 5000 rpm in first gear, would be if that person wants to let averyone arround him know, that he wants a lot of attention. Like: "Hey look at me I am racing"
Or he does not know how to drive.

5-6 sec.??

the 1st time I got the loaner,
I put in manual mode, and wanted to see
when would it change gear by itself if I kept it in 1st gear.
So the car stayed in 1st gear for less than 4 sec. and
chnaged back to D.

Okay, I made up my mind. I do pitty your car for you driving it. From former threads started by you I recall that youre a young driver and theres nothing wrong with that. In fact I am one too, but it seems like you dont really appreciate what you got there.

Somehow these threads you start remind me of that C_617 guy, or whatever his name was.

I've noticed in sport mode when floored the car actualy runs into the red i think to about 6300 or so not too far in. These are cars, some drive them harder than others. THat doens't mean we don't appreciate it! I like using everything to the best of their ability...we have a 155MPH mercedes sports saloon..be it the slowest sedan its still designed to be driven hard. Let's not forget the average speed on the autobhan is 200km/h+! and that is where this car is coming from! DOn't worry you really can't hurt the engine like that!

No question about it. You're right on each and every point. But it seems like he doesnt know s***, drives it until it brakes down, because he thaught that little light flashing didnt mean anything and then runs to his parents for another one. Thats my impression at least ...
