What was the purpose of drilling a hole in the light cap? Is there another alternative to run the wires through?

I'm just using a Xetronic 10,000K HID in the headlight and 3,000K HID in the fogs. I went with a multiple LED bulb for the citylights with a load resistor on them. They don't get as hot as people make them out to get, and if you're that worried then insulate them.

yea the light turn out really good, but the i don't know if it is good or bad....

when i was driving on the freeway (280) my light spread out and can be seen all 5 lanes covered in blue... something wrong?? or that's how HID looks?

Hi,

I'm trying to install LED City Lights bulbs but the computer desactivate the power because the resistor is too low compare to halogen bulbs.

I'll try to install a resistors in parrallel to simulate the power.

But I wonder If someone did the same things and know the right resistor to put in (correct value and not too hot).

I see that Advans did that with 25ohm 25w resistors

Maybe is it possible to find other values (2 x 50ohm 10w maybe)
Vadim seems to say that 30 Ohm / 10 Watt resistors in aluminum heat sink housing would be the better choice here...

yeah i think vadim is probably right. If I leave my car on idle, with the lights on, probably in 45 mins or so, the drivers side resistors get too hot and the error message comes up. I think I have to place them closer to the grill. to get cooled off by wind.

But just for 2 or 3min and the resistor was hot but not too much.

I think a resistor with less heat dissipation will be enought to mistake the computer, but what's the limit... I'll try to test other resistors and try to determine it.

I think that a 70ohm will be enought (it's = to 2.2W) added to the led... I think i'll be enought.

At 70 Ohm the computer may detect a faulty bulb.
Ran into this issue just yesterday while replacing the rear brake and turn signals. 6 Ohm 50 watt does it's job just fine, but after 1 min of constant on, it get way too hot IMO. I tried 24 Ohm resistors but they showd up as fault. Now I am thinking about large heat sinks for the resistors.
There nust be a way to fool the computer. MB may use a small resistor to measure volatge drop on it as guage or direct AMP measure on the bulb. Knowing what is used and where the measurements age taken we can come up with a way to simulate that and get rid of these nonsense load resistors. So far havent met a single person who knew that for sure

Gary, attach them to a metal structure or heatsinks. This will be way more effective than just hangin in the air. Will talk about it on Sat and/or Sun

I would discourage you from using tape or any other adhasive. It will melt. Use screws or epoxy or some other kind of temperature resistant solution. Not sure what exactly the temperature was but I couldn't hold the resistors in my hand, must be something above 150 F

I have an idea! I had a CPU heat sink from some old computer. That may be do the job. Also have to take in the account the fact that my resistors are in the trunk where no air flow. Sucks!

yeap I might screw them now. I have epoxy. but i dont like to use glue. maybe i can use zipties to tie them down.

Welcome to the forum.
One warning. Most of the lights on that site are directional. I mean all LEDs are pointing same direction- streght. This will make your lights bright only when looking at them directly, any angle will be too dimmed.

Thanks for the warning. I already went through that with the bulbs I tried locally at Pep Boys. Superbrightleds.com has both wide and directional bulbs. The ones I ordered have side and forward facing LEDs.
