Nano-technology paint: Gimmick or not?

So the nano paint has been around for a couple of years now, how have Benz owners found it compared to regular paint? Marketing gimmick? Or do you see a difference?

Seems tougher to scratch but still scratches like paint...I guess it really helps with swirll marks, but since my SL is silver I dont get those...

Nano (PGP Ceramiclear) was introduced in 2004.5 for the C-Class. It's a huge difference. With my old 2002 when I took it to the dealer for a free wash it would come back loaded with swirls. With my 2004.5, it's amazing, hardly any swirls after over 2 years of free car washes. Also, the 2002 was filled with hundreds of rock chips by the time it was 2 1/2, my 2004.5 has a few but you can probably count them on your hands.

Too many to list
Maybe because my car is black or something but I can see and count more rock chips on the front bumper and hood more so than my '95 Acura Legend. I personally think the paint is too soft, as each chip is very deep. Swirl marks is the same for every black car. It's all a marketing scheme.

German paints are typically much softer than Japanese paints because Germans have some kind of environmental agreement to use these kinds of paints for eco reasons (from articles I've read on German's soft paints)

It really is more resistant than the regular paint. But once you have a scratch in it, it's so much tougher to get it out (no touch up-paint)

tailgate less and you will have less rock chips. its as easy as that.

also, if a few rock chips give you such a hard time then just get a clear bra.

I would agree that if you are worried about rock chips get the 3M on the front, hood, lights etc. to protect it. Where I live they use rocks on the road when they get icy so obviously they fly around whether you tailgate or not. I don't plan on driving it in the winter anyways. I hope the paint is better. Sounds good but I am not sure if it is marketing or fact.

I would get the Clear Gaurd over 3M, my 3M is all yellow. It turned yellow right away. The Clear Gaurd cars I've seen are not yellow.

I am not sure what the Clear Guard is but all I know is if my 3M turns yellow I will be taking it back to the guy who did it and it will be put on no charge. It does have a lifetime warranty on it. I also had 3M put on my 05 Nissan Altima when I bought it and it has held up nicely and isn't yellow at all. I guess it depends on the environmental factors and quality of the 3M.

IMHO, Japanese paints suck. My last car, a 2001 Accord EX V6, was loaded with rock chips, scratches, and parts of the paint was cracking. Same thing happened to the car I had before that, which was a 1997 Accord EV V6. This is my first Benz, and I've had no issues with the paint at all.

And if anyone is going to argue "Well my Acura or Lexus has great paint", that's a load of BS. Acura paint is the same as Honda paint, and Lexus uses the same Toyota paint.

I second the opinion on Jap paint sucks. I had a Nissan Maxima and the chips on the front end were ridiculous. Although the benz is is tougher I still have little chips which I can't avoid unless without that invisible bra thing.

2008 . RX 350.
my 2004 toyota had worst paint i ever seen , soft , you can scrach it with finger nail ,very very thin (scraches to metal ,easy) and chips as hell , after 2 years front was loaded with small rock chips ,

my 2006 C-class has MUCH beter paint.

btw, all newer paints sucks because of new environmental laws.
