Is MB Engine Noisy In General
Hi:
I have been driving my W203 for about 3 years now and I notice (ever
since the car was new), the engine is a bit noisy. Compared to my
relative BMW, BMW engine makes no noise at all. Anybody notice?
Is it common? Seems like the valve makes too much noise. THe engine
is running well is not damaged whatsoever.

Yep it is. It sounds like a loud fan.

Put it on a dyno indoors and hear how loud it really is. Then you'll appreciate the tons of sound insulation to make it torrelable. When I first heard it, it was so loud that I stood back thinking it would explode.

Mercedes use for the most part V engines- louder, unbalanced. BMW's straight 6s are signifcantly smoother/quieter. But the actual ride and wind noise of the mercedes is much better than the BMW, IMO.

Mercedes >>>> BMW.

If you want a whisper quiet engine, get a Lexus...especially the LS/GS series. That engine puts BMW and MB to shame. Mine is super loud in the morning, but I've learned to live with it.

Sure, but do the Lexus dealers offer free car washes? I don't think so.

that really depends on the dealer
and sometimes if they have time they'll wash it, but if they are booked up, most likely, they won't wash it for free

my benz is pretty loud i.e. engine noise compared to my previous vehicle, which was a lexus is300. my lexus was waaaayyyyy quieter.
