C230 Lease end question

Hello all,

My 2004 c230 lease ends this month. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my cd changer is a factory option or a dealer installed item. The reason I ask is that my friends c240 cd changer does not work, and I would like to give it to him. Im assuming if it was a dealer add on, than it belongs to me. If it was a factory item, it must go back with the lease.

I called my dealership and asked them, and they told me to call service. Service said I need to talk to parts. Parts said to talk to the dealership

Can I remove it and give it to my friend, or will I get charged for it once removed? I mean if I paid for it, why give it back when I can help my friend. Is my logic okay?

ANy insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
FJ

Do you have a copy of the window sticker for the car? If so it will say on it if the changer was part of the car originally.

I actually thought of that, I know I have it, but I can't find it. I have been looking it for a few days now. Good idea though

If the CD changer was purchased as a dealer option but it was in the original sales contract then it belongs to them. If you had it done after the contract was signed and not included then it's yours. But back in 2004, the CD was a cheap option, like $400 and before that, it was a $1,000+ dealer installed option so it's very rare that they would have it as a dealer installed option. My 2004.5 was the only one I've ever seen that didn't come with it but I took it out of my 2002 before I sold it. Why don't you swap CD changers with him, it's just one screw and 2 connectors, you would be done in 10 minutes.

yeah then if you find out that you really did pay separately for the cd-changer your friend will have a new changer and you will have another working one you can sell on ebay or something.

ha ha sneaky sneaky

seriously, I only want to give him my unit, and switch it, if it belongs to me.

anyone know for sure?

My car is a 2004.5 c230. I remember that because I got the staggered wheels and the cross drilled rotors, and chrome tailpipe included in my sports pack.

Any takers?

The option code for a factory installed CD Changer is 819, you may want to check the options sticker in the car, and I don't remember where it is located but it has all the three digit numbers listed sequentially that tell you what is in your car. If 819 is listed it was factory installed.

That being said, if your car is still under warranty, just swap the working changer in yours with the non working changer and be done with it!

He said above that it could have been dealer installed but included in the cost of the car and so it would be needed to be returned with the lease.

I would just call your salesperson or ask the service department. Don't leave until they answer your question. If they can't, then you know what screw them its yours.

The problem is, the dealership doesnt care what I do with it, the bank would care. I just dont feel like getting hit for $600 bill in mail a month from now saying I took something that was not mine.

Although it would be funy, and totally easy to pull off, I do not want to pull "the switch". I only want to give it to my friend if is infact my changer and not the leasing company's.

I still cant find the damn window sticker

Anyone who has a 2004.5 window sticker feel like adding their 2 cents?

You can actually call Mercedes corporate and they can send copies of window stickers out. Since you don't own the car, they might not want to send it, but see if they can look it up and just tell you over the phone if its included in the car.

The other thing you can do is check your credit card statement for when you bought the car and see if there was a separate charge at the dealership for $600-$1000. Then you will know you paid separately and its yours.
