2001 C320 Rear Sunshade

First, tried searching the forums and didn't have much luck for a fix.

That said:

My sunshade is stuck in the down position. When I hit the button to go up, I hear a sound from the rear, but it's quick and quiet. Can't describe it. Same sound when I hit down. It worked two days ago, but not yesterday or today. Don't have a repair manual. Does anyone know a fix I can try (even if it's temporary) before I consider buying a new part and tearing out the whole rear of my car? Put another way, can I access the shade from the trunk instead of removing the rear seats?

Thanks in advance!

I was afraid that I would have to remove the back seats. I think it's because it's cold out that it's not working? Well, I'll find out--wouldn't be surprised if I find a little goblin trapped in the mechanism, cussing me out when I remove the seat.

I'll take photos when I'm doing this as well.

Thanks mate.

Mine intermittently sticks in various positions going up or down. If I grab it with my hand and push/pull while someone pushes the button it 'catches' and completes the cycle. It works fine for a while then goes on the blink and I repeat the process. Doesn't happen often enough and is easy enough to temporarily rectify to tear into it for a proper fix. I've been told the mechanism gears come out of mesh easily.

See Garage
See this STICKY thread and look at the bottom link...

There is alot of excess lubricant in the transmission of the unit. I can see this gumming up if too cold.

I will attempt to do this tonight after work. Any recommendations for what kind of lubrication (if any) I should use after cleaning the gears?
