I haven't found the 6-spd in my 02 C230K to be the smoothest shifting manual transmission I've ever driven particularly 2nd gear when upshifting or downshifting. I haven't noticed any problem shifting into first at startup. My car has 23K miles and I will probably change transmission gear oil and differential in the spring.

Most of the time I drive it with the ESP off to get the smoothest quick starts through the gears especially when entering a highway from an on ramp with a stop sign.

I have been wondering if any one has had problems with the shifter linkage. The available parts pictures from Startek doesn't show the linkage well enough to see if there are any adjustments that can be made to the linkage. I have rebuilt linkages on other cars and usually it takes a while to get the linkage adjusted correctly so that the shifting is smooth.

My only advice to the first poster is don't try to force it and break something.
