c230K - new special order on website?

Hello all,

I've been following this forum for awhile, since I plan on getting a C Coupe for myself in the near future, but this is my first post.

I'm curious - has anyone else seen the changes to the "Build your own" section of MBUSA? I went to configure a coupe a couple of days ago and found that the cloth seating option is only oyster now (charcoal has been removed), and it is now special order only, which also means that there is an $1150 fee along with it. This makes leather a pretty attractive option, since it only costs roughly $300 more.

Anyone know what is behind this change? Is it a permanent thing, or something temporary? I wonder if MB is trying to discourage cloth interiors or something....

Like I said, I'm planning on getting a coupe of my own next spring and so this new development is particularly interesting....

Thanks!

2002 C230 Coupe
I'm curious: if the cloth seats are special order and the leather seats are optional, what do they offer for the base option? Foam seats or molded hard plastic seats??

I know, it's bizzare! For what I can tell, the cloth seats are still the standard feature, with leather being optional. But the so-called "standard" option is still costing what they term a "one-time fee" of $1150.

It looks like for some reason, Charcoal cloth is no longer an option. Some car colors (like brilliant silver) are considered "special order" with the Oyster cloth, and they are charging you $1150 on top of the color premium. If you select another color, such as black, there is no charge.

Weird....

The site is screwed up. Ash cloth is available on 2003 coupes. I saw several at the two dealers here last Sunday. If you go to the option page and choose an option and then come back to the color page the proper special order combos will be shown, except for those involving Ash cloth, such as Citron.

Here is an interesting thing I saw at one dealer. Sitting side by side were two indentical 2003 Magma/Ash coupes. Both automatics, with C2 and C7. One had C4 consisting of heated seats and headlight washers and the other had the heated seats and headlight washers as separate optons. The latter was $190 more than the former. I wonder if the second one was built after the C4 package was changed to Bi-xenons and the headlight washers.

MBUSA's website is filled with numerous discrepancies. You can never go by the information on it.

I know the site was correct, in that the coupes had both oyster and the darker cloth (was it called ash or charcoal? I can't remember) as standard choices when the 2003s were first released. It has just changed to this new verison recently.

I bet you're correct.
