for those that have installed real HIDs on the C230K-before 'HID present' was set...

how did you get the HID's to come one and stay on? I don't care about the error msg at this point - SLK boy said he can't get them to STAY ON.
per YOUNG
"put the key in the ignition. turn on lights. start up car. - i've kind of forgotten, but the key might need to be in one of the positions. as long as i didn't start the car up before attempting the lights, they stayed on."
can anyone add anything to this ???
thanks!

i think i rememeber that you just turn on the lights. No key in switch. Once they come on and stay on the I think you can start the car.

i reread my old thread on this and i've only managed to confuse myself... i said to insert the key at one point, but contradict myself later... anyway, it wasn't that complicated. once you get the lights installed, just try turning them on first. i did that to test the connection to make sure they were right.

I remember that before my coupe's settings were changed to "Xenon present" by the dealer, the procedure was like this:
1. Turn on the lights. Wait 10-20 seconds, otherwise they will start blinking when the ignition is on.
2. Insert the key and start the engine. The lights should stay on.

I found that even following those directions they still randomly blinked in and out. If that happens, just turn off the ignition, turn lights on -- if all is ok after 10 seconds -- fire her up! Otherwise, power lights off... waight a few (HID's don't like being cycled) .. try again.
This grew old REAL fast so off to the dealer for an overpriced mouse click.

Mine would shut off as soon as i turned on the ignition...once i was able to have one turn on, but other than that, it would always shut off. I went to the dealer and had them change it to Xenon present.

Even with Xenon present it blinks on occasion. It was annoying so I just wired it to the switch. Just ran the lines to where our switch is. You can access it thru the fuse box in the drivers side.

As I recall, from Young's previous post (damn, that was a long time ago) regarding this, it was accurate. It's really just a matter of "playing" with it (turning on the lights, start the car, move the switch position 2, turning off the car, and visa versa). That's the confusing part... Off, then on, start car, etc.
Long story short, if you mess with it long enough you can get the HID's to come on while you're waiting for that dealer appointment to change the actual setting. If they're blinking after actually getting them started, then I'd say you have other issues.
