For the same price as the sports package you could probably buy a new set of springs and some nice wheels. Maybe even get bigger sways.

It is true. The (ripoff) sport package is no longer available.

Why was it a ripoff? It had so little sport content (about $500 worth, tops). The only content was better side bolsters on the seats, slightly stiffer springs and shocks, but no lowering (even tho the marketing weenies said so, I have measured cars side by side in the showroom). The wheels are the same (size), the sway bars are the size of pencils on both sport and non-sport. The tires were Z-rated, but, big deal. And the aluminum trim???

Here is my sport package:

AMG 17" 5-spoke wheels, staggered, w/W-rated rubber - $1700
AMG C32 sway bars - $300
Eibach Pro-kit springs - $275
Koni adjustable sport shocks - $550

All of that is less than the ripoff $3000 factory sport option and dramatically outperforms it.

The sport package also had those cool blue tinted windows.

Wasn't the W202's sport package much better? I seem to remember that the springs and sways on those were much beefier (it's possible that the stock set-up on the W202 was much softer - most of the car rags felt that the handling of the base W203s were much better than their predecessors).

Cheers, BT

Yes, in all honesty, I left a bunch of stuff off of my list because it has no value to me. Stuff like side skirts, air dams, blue tinted glass, aluminum trim...well, it is all fluff to me.

Show me the beef.

I will post a pic of my car. The pics are on my home PC.

The Eibachs and Koni's are still on order and are expected the first week of October. I'll post another pic after that.

The sport pkg is dropped in 03. Hopefully, MB will have some appearance pkg like they do for the 03 W209 CLK (the 03 CLK320 does not have the sport pkg either).

Anyone know the reason MB dropped the sport pkg for 03? sales # maybe?

How much was the sport pkg option for 02?

The sport package was $3000. Uggh. I hardly ever see one on the street, so I assume its sales volume was low.

While poking around one of the local dealers Sucady before last, I saw a 2003 Sport Wagon with what appeared to be the Sport package. On the sticker, it was shown as the Avantgarde package and an alloy wheel package.

Lots. He would send you to the parts department and give you zero trade in on your brand new wood and stock seats.

I ordered the multi-contour seat adjuster, which is not as beefy of lateral support as the sport seats, but I can snug what IS there very close to my sides for spirited driving. $460 option.

The sport package was garbage anyways. The interior was garbage. What was that cheep imitation carbon fiber? Nothing like that beautiful sport package on the W202's. White gages, sport trimming (in and out), better suspension, sport seats, sports steering wheel. And beautiful carbon fiber interior. Not that tin can looking thing they put in on the W203 sport package. And the package was only $890.00, as appose to $3,000.00. But that blue tint was very nice. My sales person told me that they weren’t selling too many sport packages. Do you see any on the street? I don’t. That’s why they stop making them.

that cheep imitation carbon fiber would be the center pillar cover on my car. I can live without the carbon fiber interior though. Different people different taste.

Yes, I would say that the sport seats are better for lateral support. However, the multi-contour's, although the side bolsters are not as long, can be adjusted closer to your sides. In addition, you get adjustable 2-piece lumbar support.

Well, that "Fluff" you speak of is probably where most of the cost of the package comes from. Also, the interior is not "fake" carbon fiber. It was never meant to be carbon fiber, it is a brushed-aluminum trim. But I guess it's supposed to be cheap since it cost more than the standard wood. Besides, if you were to do an aftermarket tint and bodykit, the cost would be well over $3,000. I think that it's worth it just for that alone. The main reason to get it is because of the way most people think about it. That would make it unique.

MB should have combine the two seat for the C-class, like they did for the W208 CLK55. It has both sport and multi-contour seat.
