No, the coding is in the plugs attached to the ribbon cable that connects all of them.

There are two distinct noises and the fix is different for each. The louder "snapping" noise is caused by the internal clutch in the stepper motor (replace motor). The more subdued "tick - tick - tick" is caused by the stepper motor shaft turning in a broken actuator. When does the noise occur?

The noise is sometimes when i start up but the sound is a more tick tick sound
The stepper motor i replaced is next to the fan on top the one with the 3 screw showing up is there a picture available for this on as the stepper fitted into a gear linking with another gear no arms so could one of these gears be broken

If the SRS light goes on you probably didn't properly install the switch plugs to the center console switch block you removed. If I remember correctly there is one plug that can fit into two different sockets.

I have a different problem, in my 01' C320 i have strong air circulation to the drivers side of the car but on the passengers side, the ac doesnt blow as strong...
I also get a loud squeeking noise for a moment when the ac was on, my mom thought it was a bird in my engine it was pretty obnoxious

Help me Save this Chirping bird behind my Radio!!
When ever the Ac or heat turns on, i hear this annoying chirping from exactly behidn the radio. not driver side or passenger side but right behind the radio. I think if it was the blower motor, it would be coming from the passenger footwell.
When i try to do a resync, the test keeps going making me believe atleast one motor or linkage is bad and i have a feeling it is right behind the radio.
When i accelerate the car, noise goes away, if its a very warm day the noise goes away, making me think that a plastic piece is broken somewhere right behind the radio.
It does not sound like a click, sounds like a bird chirping like che che che che che che che che che, you guys get the idea. Also i believe that the C240 has lesser stepper motors. Which motor do you guys think it is ? When i remove it off auto, and manually test all the wents the mixing seems to be ok and everything seems to be working.
When i start the resync process the chirping happens too, which helps me eliminate the blower motor because at time of resync blower is not working!!

Actually just went and checked all vents in non auto mode and the foot flap vents are always on, regardless of where I set the vents too. Which stepper motor controls the foot flap vent ?

M2/15 controls both left and right footwell flaps on a C240. There's a PDF doc in several of the 'stepper motor' or 'hvac' threads that shows the location.

So the stepper linkage controls 2 individual flaps for left and right ? Which part breaks, the linkage or the actuating arm? Also can u get to m2/15 and it's linkage with just removing the radio and middle part and not drivers side dash?

It's usually the actuating arm.
No, and many have tried.

I took everything apart last night and figured out that it was actually the blower motor that was squeaking. So i put all the dash back, put some wd 40 in the blower but now i have noticed that my airconditioning is not working. The blower and everything else is working but no cold air coming out. I have made sure that i turn the "econ" button on and off but still no go. The climate control only had one connector goign to it and that is plugged in, what else could it be ?

Thank you!
THANK YOU ...This thread got me to diagnose the M2/15 Foot well arm ...and yup it were broke! Studied Bullewinkles PDF's and every page of this thread...Finally had the day off with the printed instructions I R & R'd it along with a new stepped motor since I was in there.
Areas that slowed me down... that dang hidden (1) screw under the (pulled out) parking brake handle that kept me from removing my headlight switch for about 1/2 hour head scratching.
That stinking 3 wire terminal on the upper (my MB= heated seats, hazard flasher switch, door lock switch and tow disable) bezel ...when reconnecting I couldn't see how it went....struggled for another 1/2hour head scratching....in my optioned 2002 C230K sport coupe ....finally found that it goes into a terminal receiver port back there which only 2 wires engage 2 pins (not 3) wires ..and it also only half fills a 6 lug port receiver hole,... hard to explain past that... but ts not cool, wish I paid more attention when pulling it off earlier in the day... all other terminal ends and receivers are easily fool proof...
Dropping screws had to add another half hour search & rescue.
I would recommend you lossen the key switch before removing any lower dash screws ... it steadies that panel well.
Reassembly after struggling to get that radio bracket in... said f'this and like others trimmed off the 2 locking tangs on the radio plastic bracket to rear brace.
Observation....would it killed MB to have 2 stamped 1/2" clearance holes in that dang welded brace which covers 2 of the M2/15 motor screws. Getting 2 out was a PITA getting 2 more in later was more. I R&R M2/21 stepper too cause I had it and was in there. That doesn't have the arm but 2 gears... a different flap method of moving.
My job was 6.5 hours..... Like everyone else bet could do it less than 4 now that see how it all comes apart & goes together. It'll be a miracle if my old man body will bend and/or move easily over the next few days TBD...

I broke them off taking it out! Made it easier the next 3 times
The trick is to grab the whole assembly and tweak it by hand to get a better/straight shot at the screws. It's all plastic.
Proper lubrication will fix that....worked for me Job well done!

C320 Wagon
Is there anyone around San Francisco that can help me tackle this? I have the clicking sound coming from behind the radio as well and the floor vents are constantly on.

All I am in the Houston area and need to have this done, is anyone willing to help or do this for me? I will pay. Please let me know, it is too hot to let all of the air get lost in my dash!
