advise on a few things

Hi everyone,

I currently have a 2001 C240, nothing special just as plain as could be. Last Summer i purchased the C230 Komp. rims and tires which i love and suit the car perfectly. The problem is my car sits really high now. I wanted to lower the car to cover the gaps in the front and back, but don't want to loose the comfort of the car. I also have a 3 year extended warranty on the car which i don't want to loose or have problems with if i do lower the car. Any advise as too what type of lowering springs and consequences of what might happen to the warranty?

Also, I'm looking to put an in-dash DVD player, as well as a sub woofer in the back with an amp? Any ideas as to the brand that would work best with the car?

And last thing.... i must say my car is slow, any ideas as too how i could boost up some power? The last thread i read in regards to this is change the engine....lol.

Any help will be appreciated. Other than the rims I don't have any idea about upgrades to the car. I have tried to search previous threads in regards to this but have been unsuccessful.

Thank you once again.

Welcome aboard.

You don't mention your budget, but expect to spend about $1,000 for a good spring and shock combo. I have the H&R Cup Kit. The ride is about 20% firmer and I like. I got a minimal drop. Just enough to get my 17" rims closer to the wheel well. I like it anyway.

Take a look at people's sig lines. It will tell you their mods. Then you can get a feel for how low the car will be. Check out the picture thread at the top.

I think you can get about 13 extra Horse with the Evo Pulley kit. Really on your car, aside from spending HUGE dollars, there is not much you can do.

if you want to drop your car inexpensively, you could look for some springs from a 2005+ Sport Sedan - should be much lower than your stock C240. Lowering your car shouldn't affect your warranty, unless they can prove that your additions caused the problem you want covered.

c240 and 69 cadi cdv conv
I origionally had h&r springs, shocks and struts after i changed over to coilovers, it was a nice ride, also it looked as if the car was slamed, i never had problems with scraping or anything. for the stereo i would go with a good name brand amp and no bigger than a 10" sub, JL Audio is a good combo for both.

just get the 05-07 c230 springs or 02-04 c32 springs for a lower stance. you can still use your oem struts. you should still have the same ride.

When I sold my stock springs to another member on this board, they said their 240 dropped at least 1.5 inch (front and rear). Also, since it sounds like you have a luxury 240, change the spring pad in the rear to a 2 or 1. That'll lessen the wheel well gap even more.

I would suggest swapping out the shocks w/ some adjustable koni's or get the sport shocks. With the luxury shocks, the shorter sport springs need shocks that can handle the shorter compression. I've heard many people go with adjustable koni's and were very happy and some even said rode more comfortable than stock.

Also, try out the advanced search on here and you'll find lots of helpful information from suspension to engine performance to body kits/appearance...etc...

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!! ITS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Unfortanatly I live in Toronto, Canada so I'm going to have to wait to lower my car. I currently have winter tires on and I miss my rims already. But I'm happy to know my options and can't wait for the summer to drop it instead of looking like im going off roading.

to lower, you can get a set of springs for under $300...

i would go with the Eclipse AVN5495 headunit, as it has nav, 7" DVD, 30GB HD and a touchscreen....

for the sub..its your choice depending on which kind and budget..i would go for a JL 12W7 or two 10W7's, and power it with an JL 1000/1

for power, you can get an ECU upgrade, Evosport pulley, Evosport Headers, delete the resonators and that should be enough...if not, you can always go with the Kleemann S/C...

there are many upgrades possible..it all depends on your budget and what you want to upgrade, the looks or the power of your car

I've got H&R sports on the 04.5+ struts (i think they're a different part no. from my 03). The car still feels *slightly*"oversprung"... eventually you'll need to get struts. I would recommend Bilstein personally...

Or better yet, get the H&R cup kit (if you don't mind the ride height).

IMO for H&R springs!
Stock rear pad: #2 (tucking in the back w/full tank of gas)
Desired for H&R (rear ride height): #3 or #4

PS: i had 04.5+ springs installed and it lowers approximately 3/4" to 1" all around. Not enough for me...

Most of us know exactly what you mean without seeing any pictures. Take it from a guy who has been through 4 sets of suspensions and just do it right the first time with coilovers. When I got my sedan I tried to be cheap by buying Eibach springs, but the ride was awful. Then I went the next step and got an H&R cup kit (matched springs/shocks) but the drop was uneven so I had the front springs cut a half coil. Finally I bought a set of TEIN Basic coilovers and got the height just perfect with a comfortably stiff ride. The day I bought my coupe I drove straight off the lot to get a set of TEIN Basics installed.
