ESP fault

Hey all,

I've got a problem that I haven't been able to fix... I believe I read something about it months ago, but can't find the thread now...

Basically, I get an ESP fault when I enter a hard corner (sometimes it doesn't require a hard corner.. could be triggered by a lane change, or even following the contour of the road on a soft sweeping turn.)

The ESP doesn't malfunction, and I've verified that the system is still working, even while the fault is active...

I've never worried too much about it, but I'm now trying to sell the car, and figure I better solve the problem.

Can anyone tell me what's up?

Try teaching the car where the front wheels are:

Turn on the car, turn the wheel all the way to the left, all the way to the right.

Do this a few times

Then shut off the car when the wheel is straight forward.

What is the condition of your tires? If your alignment is off, and your tires are worn, you could be giving feedback to the ESP. While you may not be driving hard, the feedback appears to be hard because of an alignment or worn tire. Hope that makes sense.

That shouldn't be needed unless the battery has been disconnected. It is an easy thing to do though, so why not.

Could be a sensor somewhere too, it is hard to tell. Have you had it in at all for diagnostic work?

What about a malfunctioning or sticking lateral/yaw sensor? Probably gets stuck from getting slung to the side, therefore the ESP fault during hard cornering. If its stuck the car still thinks your cornering.

If you have tried all of the above and the problem still persist. There are numbers of ESP sensors on your brakes and steering wheel and a control box at the back of your rear seat. Usually its the box that goes bad, plugging in STAR should tell you which part is broken. Good luck.
