I've always thought the C class her in the US was a hell of deal. Even when you compared it to buying one in Germany.

Guys, you are trying to compare different countries. Canada has a lot of social programs like pension plans, medical coverage etc. Canada doesn't have national automotive industry. US is way different. Here we have to pay for all the medical and social things out of pockets, our car manufacturers are heavily supported by government, all foreign manufactureres have to either build assemblies here or lower the prices on imports. Competition and low taxes make the cars cheaper here. But, we have other conserns like nowadays all the social security money go to baby boomers and when our generation goes for retirement there will be no funds available.
Don't know much about Australia, but my stereotypes tell me it is very similar to Canada

at least canada and australia aren't on terrorist targets.. I'm personally scared to live in FL, in fear of a nuclear attack.. FL is the closest state in the continental united states to the middle east... Scary!

When still lived in Australia (Lived there for the first 21 years of my life - i'm only 26 now), I asked the same question, and was told that it's because of the right-hand drive and just the fact that the Australian market is so much smaller than the US (population sizes etc).

What can I say? Your government just rips you off. But don't get jealous or ask for mercy, our gov does the same to us but in different ways.

Dude people that can afford MB here either come from money or work their asses off to be able to afford the $500-$1,000/month (that's an extremely rough generalization) car payment. THere are milllions of people in the US that live below the poverty line and will most likely consider themselves lucky to ever drive a 2 year old kia let alone a MB.

OK what I meant wasnt that every one should buy a Benz, I meant that if Mercs, and all cars for that matter are so cheap, why drive a car missing a door or with no seat etc.

I had a quick search on Ebay for cars,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-...QQcmdZViewItem

Now I have used the loan calculator and i have punched in 70 months on 0 deposit at 10% interest, and the repayments are $28.55 pcm.

Have no idea how easy it is for finance in the US but over here anyone with a pulse can obtain credit/finance.

Anyhow, I hope that clears that up, I'm certainly no anti-low income earner!

LOL

Considet this: many people don't want to work. The city and state give them money for food and provide an appartment or money for it. That's where you will see those rusted buckets with nuts and bolts. But at the same places you will find the craziest pimp mobiles that belong to "elite" of the projects.

I watched couple times the "Pimp my ride" but haven't seen them doing any engine or performance work on those shot-dead junk. I call it

12 TVs

I saw the episode with 82 camry wagon with 2 spin tables and VW van with cloth dryer and 42" TV. At the end these cars are still junk.
There is few other shows on TV where you can see how much work and tallent people put into the cars. Those are real work of art and they come with a price tag

Oh how cool! I grew up in North Ringwood, but spent the later few years there in Hawthorn.

One of my best friends used to live in Lower Templestowe (Lynwood Pde) so i'm really familiar with the area.
