Help My Car Gas Tank Is Frozen Cant Get Gas And Broke The Locks Please Help Me
I hope someone can help me. Unfortunatley due to the cold front and snow in Chicago its been below 10 degrees below and my gas tank is frozen. I cant even put gas in the car because the gas is frozen and the top frozed up tightly. Not even that the locks were also frozen and it broke the locks that lets you put gas into the car. The locks wont work anymore. As a result it broke the tabs off the compartment. I cant put any gas into the car bc the top of the tank is frozen. I dont know what to do. The car drives but at the top where you insert the gas pump in its frozen so you cant insert any gas into the car. You cant even screw the top back on because thats frozen too. I dont have any gas in my car so I cant drive nevertheless put any gas into it. What should I do ? I have factory warranty on the car, do I have my car towed to the dealer ? Will they be able to replace the locks and the gas compartment tops and tabs for me under warranty ? I am newbie with a C230 and I found this forum in hopes that I can get some information. Thanks

Take a hair dryer and melt the frozen gas cap or just park the car somewhere warmer (like in the garage)
P.S. Post a picture of the damage, maybe that will help to see what we are dealing with.

I live at Chicago too, although I never experienced your situation but I think instead of being over paranoid of the situation you would calm down and see what ideas other people have that may help you.

Well here in the picture where the arrows are I am showing where its broken. The arrow at the top is pointing towards the cover. The cover tab broke off so you cant close the compartment where the lock goes. It snapped off abd broke. Therefore it cannot close. The bottom arrow is where the lock tabs are around the plastic. Those broke too and will not close the lock wont slide either. Inside where you put the gas, the gas is frozen cannot insert pump into it bc it will not slid and its frozen like an ice sickle at the top will not insert. Will Mercedes Benz replace the locks and tabs and gas cover under warranty ? Please help me.

If the gas door doesn't close you would still be fine as long as you are still able to close and tighten the gas cap inside. As for the rest of the frozen caps. Just take a blow dryer and keep blowing it until the cap has been unfroze.
As far as if the warranty will cover this type of damage, I have no clue.

I have no idea. But the gas door tabs are broken where the lock is suppose to lock it. Either the locks are broken too bc the tabs around the lock is broken. Its frozen ice around it. I will try to take a blow dryer to where you put the gas in at but its like ice their and I cant screw the top on at all. Also I tried insertin a pump but it will not move at all its completely frozen. Will Mercedes Benz replace a new gas door with locks under warranty since tabs and locks are broken ?

Pour anti-freeze all over your car and get to chipping with a soft object that wont scratch the paint. Keep re-applying anti-freeze untill your car is shiny new!

chitownsfinest is the 184th iteration of c230_617.
He's persistent, so some of you can hope he actually tries the hair dryer...
As rainforest pointed out, MB tests the car in far worse temps than Chicago -10 below. So, this thread is bogus... and CLOSED.
