Tire Pressure monitor in the works!
I spent nearly 2 hours playing with DAS hooked to my car and found that the Tire Pressure Monitor can be added to our cars. I am not sure about 2005 but should be fine for 2001-2004.5. Please don't ask me if it will work with your car. I am not done doing research for it. It will still take me some more time. I haave the menu activated in IC and shows the picture of the car with PSI readings. When i press the reset, i can recalibrate the sensors. There is still lots of work to be done with this so I will keep everyone updated. I will post pictures of the menu.

Awesome work Doc! Is is definitely an option I would like because I was unfortunte enough to had gotten one of those nails stuck in my tire and didn't realize I had a flat until my alignment was acting goofy. Now I try to go around the car each time before I drive off so this option would definitely come in handy.
Looking forward to your research results.

I keep hearing about all these secret features that can only be found when you're hooked up to DAS. I don't understand the point of not putting those features in the manual and making you jump through hoops to get them activated. Anyone know?
I'm bringing my car to the dealer next week for something else. Can I ask them to turn that option on?

Like sunman said YES. But in this case you are missing the sensors in the wheels that will transmit the signal. Without them you are SOL.

Sorry, I wasn't asking if it would work for my car specifically -- just wondering if the dealer can turn on any option that I hear about, assuming I have the right equipment.

The list of parts needs were posted before, there are 4 wheel sensors, 4 tire pressure monitor antennas, a control module and some more stuff.
If you come up with a parts numbers list please let me know. Sure looks like the pressure is displayed for each wheel.
You know more about the DAS than 99% of MB technicians.

The problem is that this system was never intended to work on a C class. I have some WIS documents from benz but they ditched this option and it was NEVER introduced in the C class. My parts catalog even shows parts for this system 2 years ago but the new EPC that I have does not show these parts anymore. The system consists of 4 antennas, 4 brackets, 1 main harness, 1 control unit, 4 tire sensors, and misc screws and clips. I remember seeing the wheel well once before when I was installing my stationary heating system but don't remember seeing any mounting spots for the antennas. Also, the system comes in 2 frequencies. 315mhz and 4xxmhz. I think it is country dependent. The sensors have batteries installed in them and their life is about 6 years. The battries are permemantly installed in the sensors so they are trash after 6 years. the CLK209 also does not have this system so my dilema is which car to use as a donor parts car. The Control unit from a 211 may not work so I may have to go to a s class since their system is much older than the 211 system. Time will tell

Here is a photo of the tire pressure sensor/transmitter from a 2005 E320
Made by BERU AG wheel mounted sensors/transmitters that continually monitor pressure and temperature in each tire

Just out of curiousity, about a week ago I was looking through the 2005 UK C-class brocure. In there they list as an option, a tire pressure sensor. Could this be of any help to you?
Here is a link to the brochure. It's the last one in the options list on page 47
http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/pc/pc...n/brochure.pdf
Maybe you can get some one from the UK to help you out, maybe get some parts?

Interesting the one of the US systems (Intellevalve) use 433.92 MHz tire sensor/transmitters. These may be locked into a international standard for transmitter frequency, data output etc. That could mean using a $30 transmitter with the MB control module?
My investigation reveals that there "U.S. companies Delphi Corp., Johnson Controls Inc., TRW Automotive and Visteon Corp.; Schrader Electronics Ltd. of Northern Ireland; and Beru AG and Siemens AG of Germany, in addition to other domestic and international suppliers. SmarTire Systems Inc. of Richmond, British Columbia, sells aftermarket systems and supplies Visteon with its technology. Schrader has supplied DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan and Renault, among others."

if im not mistaken, the tire pressure monitor is available for non-US spec cars, infact, i remember seeing a provision for a fuse for this feature on the REAR SAM.
btw, the system does not really monitor the pressure, its more simple and just measures the rotation of the tire, somethin like the outer diameter, of if the sensors notice that there is a difference in the rotation or the like....

In order to fit those sending units/sensors, the rim must have an indent on the inside where the valve fits...meaning that most of the rims are not suiteable for these sensors...
Even the W210 already had a tire pressure monitor system btw...
greetingz,

I am aware of the indent in the rim. The tire pressure loss warning system measures rotational force of each tire with the help of ESP and warns if one loses pressure. That's all it does. Also called a passive system. I have already activated that feature in my car. And no, please don't ask me if you can activate it in your car because you probably can't. The system that I am working on now is actually a active pressure monitor system that measures pressures from inside the tire, relays them to a antenna, and then sends them to the display in the instrument cluster. Most aftermarket wheels will not work with this system because the sensor will not fit inside. The system in the brochure is a passive loss system.

Thanks!
The way it was explained to me by sunman is to replace the ESP module. I believe it has something to do with the internal software of this unit. Newer ones have a subroutine that can be activated to then show the passive tire pressure loss warning system. In older ones that is not available. I believe that your car would have to have a build date of 07/03 or later for this newer ESP unit.

I did a Google search on Tire Pressure monitoring systems, and downloaded the 177 page National Transportation Department survey. You will see that the passive, low cost systems really don't work well. These are the ones that use the ESP modules.
The pressure transmitter systems work very well. My comment on the transmitters goes to that we could possibly use the SmarTire transmitter that will fit all after market wheels.

If it is a built-in option that can simply be enabled in DAS - it sure wouldn't hurt, being an extra safety feature. I got a nail in a rear tire a few months ago - would have been nice to be alerted in a situation like this.
