Advice on a C240 purchase

I am an E class owner but have a chance to pick-up a nice look'n little 2003 C240 with 90K miles. But, I don't know anything about their downsides, if any. On the W124 I know just about everything to look for. Can anyone tell me what to look for in this car. Is it a potential nightmare like some of the other newer Mercedes..especially the W210 and W211. Thanks

The mileage is pretty high- But it being a 2003 *probably* means you will not have as many bugs as a 2001 might have, the first year of production. The C240 itself is a nice little car- it is slower than any other modern mercedes really, but I find it adequate for driving around- the touch shift makes good use of the small HP output (168) if you are feeling "sporty". It is also fine for freeway driving, comfortable and able to overtake and change lanes decently.

I would just look for one with lower miles. I have a 2002 with 56,000 and no problems save for an electrical with the CD player and lightbulbs being changed out.

I also have a 2002 C240 with 54500 miles and have not experienced any problems till now. 90K miles is high for a 2003 model. Having the engine, transmission, etc. checked would be a good idea. If there are no problems, the car should be fine.

90k. damn; and I thought I had a lot of miles on my '04..

The c240 is slow as *****, more so if you get the 4matic; but its a great car.
65k miles and the only problem was a squeaky front suspension. Just needed new front bushings.

I would look for one with lower miles, and with a waranty.

my advice is don't get 240, cause it's just way to slow
and if you want it, then get lower milages

2003 C320 with Command, Voice Recognition, Telephone, Bose 6 disc, Memory seats, Moon roof.
Talking

I sold my '92 300E in October, and picked up a 2003 C320 with 36,000 miles.
I would get the bigger motor of the C320 and lower milage. Now have 41,000
miles and no problems.

Hey im also a recent '03 c240 owner...about a month now...mine came with 80k so im guessing thats what 50miles??? I had some initial problems with a broken spring and a control arm that needed replacement.
So maybe i would suggest getting a car that still has some kind of warranty...even if its only major components and definetly get teh car checked out by mercedes or a trustworthy mechanic to see if there are any problems.
Unfortunately im gonna have to agree with the previous posts...a bigger engine like the C320 at least would satisfy my appetite a bit more.
However no same in the 240's engine - still powerful enuff on the highway

2002 C230 coupe , NOt THE AVATAR!!
my suggestion is never buy a european car over 40k miles...

i don't know much about C240 performance, but before my family bought the C320 sedan we were thinking about it too, but my dealer said if u have family of 5 C240 will be weak. so we end up with a C320 and i think is the fastest car we ever had.

for my C230 coupe all it got is a supercharger but would it make a big difference than C240 iono... i think all u need to do is just floor it.

We all buy certain models for certain reasons. I wanted a c240 because I needed a really, really quiet ride thats not too bad on gas.

How many miles per day do you consider daily driving? I'm really curious..

I paid just under $25,000 with taxes and everything included for 80,000Km on a 2003 - this was a little over a month ago.

I can vouch for this.. my c240 is a gas hog and I don' thave a heavy foot. About 5/7th of a tank every week ~300 miles = ~19mpg (probably less) all in city driving Los Angeles.

On the freeway, BEST case scenario ~24mpg (from LA to vegas and back).

This thing SUCKS on gas.

Hmm.. too much. I paid 14k for a 2002 c240 w/ 49k miles, xenon bi-headlights, amg wheels, spoiler, titanium package, tinted, sunroof, 6 cd changer.

If I may;

I bought my CPO '02 C240 with 28K on it for around $24k out the door. I have had zero problems (knock on wood). Only had a small issue with front end alignment. I have had it 14 months now.

I commute 120 miles a day for work - all highway. I get 26 mpg on a good day and just over 22 when it is really cold out. These numbers are based on fuel tickets and milage, BTW. And, I do not really have a heavy foot. I cruise around 75mph.

No, the 240 is not a fast car but it sure rides quiet and smooth, handles great, and it is a Benz! I love it! I put killer tunes in it, set the cruise control and go!

I don't think the car is that bad on gas. On average I get 24MPG (9.8L/100km) with a 50%city/50% highway split. On long drives on the highway (Toronto-Montreal), I can get a little better than 28MPG (8.2L/100km)

Do you guys have a lead foot?

i've been averaging about 24mpg on the last 3-4 tanks, which is around 350miles per tank, just approximation

and i have c320, but of course, most of it are highway
maybe like 70% highway and 30% local
