chrome key question

I had a C280 loaner last time I was in the shop and it had the new cool chrome key. I was amazed at the range this cars remote had, I could do it from the 18th floor of my building and it would unlock the doors across the street. Is it the key that gives it the range or something that the newer cars have that my 05 CL600 doesnt? Thanks for the help guys

I don't think that its the key. I have amazing range on my my car with the old key. It would lock/unlock my car from the 16th floor of my sisters apartment and the car was about 500 feet away. And my windows are tinted.

Yup, my oldest key has the shortest range. My 2 new keys will kick its butt, range wise. New battery should do the trick.

1998. They had the IR only flip-keys in 1997 and switched over to the IR/RF smartkeys in 1998. Since then, the smartkey has undergone two revisions, mainly the revisions have been the styling.

thanks for the info. My 2000 E55 has fair distance with the remote, maybe 75-100 ft max...my Cl600 remote acts the same way with only a fair range of up to maybe 100ft. My 07 loaner C class key acted like a remote on steroids, i had never experienced any benz remote with a range like that.
