C 240 chip

adding chips to NA engines do not add much power, perhaps 10-15HP and about the same amount of torque. Forced inductions are much better to add chips to because the amount of boost can be altered, therefore adding better power ratios for the money spent.
However, there are some chips out there for NA engines for MB. One off the top of my head is Powerchip Group. Google them.

20 will do that? I noticed when I drive it hard causing it to wake from the slumber my wife puts it in, the throttle response is great. I wonder if the reprogramming of the ecu just locks it in the performace mode all the time, disabling "adaptation". Guess I could email the company about that.

you will probably feel better throttle response mid-range and top-end. It will also remove the limiter. The gains for the money is not too bad for a NA engine. Just for comparison, a chip for my A4, $500, gained me 25-30hp and 55-60tq. A chip paired with a exhaust system will definitely help get the most out of the engine with the re-mapped ECU.
The chip will probably be your highest gain mod for that amount of money, unless you want to put a supercharger, which is much more money. Its certainly not bad and will probably feel a better response to the car when you hit it.

love the car, but did'nt realize how sleepy they were until I owned it. My A6 that I traded on it definately made more power and it was awd with only a 2.8

I used to have a 2002 C240 and I did get the Powerchip upgrade for 91 octane fuel.
Very noticeable increase in acceleration, especially higher in the rpm range (higher than 3000rpm). It pulled much harder all the way to redline. Now, I don't have before and after acceleration times, but my butt-dyno and even my wife noticed a big difference.
No, you're not going to catch a C32 or C55, but I think it makes the car more competitive with the supercharged C230's off the line.
