Stupid brake light!!!

So my left brake light went out yesterday... I went to the local autopart store and purchased the correct bulb to replace for the break light. this morning I popped the cover off and removed the light tree. Since I wasn't sure which one was the brake and which was the rear fog light I just replaced them both. Guess what... left brake light still doesn't work! Am I missing something here?? I know its the right bulbs because I cross referenced the numbers on the bulbs. The rear fog light works so I switched that bulb with the bulb that was in the brake light position to make sure it wasn't just a bad bulb...no dice. Why do I have a feeling this isn't going to be as simple as replacing a light bulb???

Had the same problem, but when i switched the lights back, it worked fine. Take both of them out and match it with the other tree, i cant remember the format cuz i have the s-tails now, but hopefull that works for you. Good luck

What do you mean "switched them back"? You put the old bulbs back in and it started working again?

Yeah i took the old ones out, and ordered new ones from http://www.autolumination.com/, when i plugged the new ones in, they worked perfect. what number bulbs are you using ? That may be your problem. Even more so if your using oem bulbs. I'm using aftermarket and they are working fine.

I havent had time to do that. I plan on it this evening. I did however replace the rear fog bulb along with the brake bulb abd it worked with the new bulb. It wasn't out before but I would think that would tell me the bulbs are good. I even tried both bulbs in the rear fog socked and the both worked. I'm wondering if the brake bulb section of light tree could be bad...

Great! I'm sure this will end up costing me $300 before its all said and done. I assume that will have to be purchased from the stealership? Could I test it with a test light?

I experienced the same frustration with mine but fortunately it was during warranty and they replaced the whole light panel and the rear SAM.

I am under warranty. I guess if the actual light tree were bad this would have to be covered under warranty. I just had the car in for warranty work and I was having a similar problem with the passenger side rear lighting. the stealership said they changed a wiring harness. I wonder if my rear SAM is going out also. I sure hope the independant shop I plan on using from now on does warranty work... I have given up on the stealership.

Told me?? Man thats what happened. They had my car for like 2 weeks while they were trying to milk the warranty company for everything they could. It finally got fixed and I still came out of pocket almost $400 for "warranty" work.

Problem solved!! I was getting aggravated so I went down to the parking lot to have another look at this. I removed the harness from the lighting tree and firmly plugged it back in. All my rear lights work now! I dont know how this could have come lose since I have never removed the cover but oh well... Glad I dont have to even think about warranties or the stealership now!
