Trying to replace COMAND NAV..

Hey there fellas,

So Im trying to replace my Navigation in my 2007 C230 with an aftermarket Nav system that includes bluetooth because the 07's dont come standard with it. But having said that what is a fair price to sell the regular Comand (US Specs) and what is a good replacement?

Thanks in advance.

Why not retrofit MB Bluetooth into your system? Upgrading to an aftermarket nav is going to be a very expensive project.

There are three parts of the factory phone kit. I believe you may only need one or two. But not all three because you won't need all the antenna stuff. Then just add the Bluetooth module.

There are a lot of inexpensive ways to do it...I don't know if you can use the Mercedes one that is used in the other classes, but that was only $750 when we bought it for our S 550. Also, look at Argos and there are a few others that if you search the forum you will find. Swapping it out will be a huge job and a big mistake.

guys, if I just install the command unit (without nav antenna/nav cd..etc.), can I just use it as a radio, cd player and the cd changer? will that be a straight plug and play?

Which one did you use in your S class...

And if Argos doesnt have any kits for '07 what other ones should I look into?

You still need to have the dealer to do the star diagnostic changes to recognize the comand unit.

dash kits for 05+ are out. there was a thread on that a few months back and I just checked autotoys. theres also the avic-z1 install DIY posted.
you will lose your steering wheel controls with any aftermarket HU. for pioneer, there is something that is suppose to retain steering wheel controls...CARPI..i think. thats in another thread. I'd prefer pioneer HU. The new D3 looks pretty good.
Its a lot of work just for bluetooth, but then everything else is "upgraded".

if your in Socal and have a 6-disc changer, i got dibs (if its got mp3 capability).

I asked Steve the same thing and he said that it comes all together in a package or something and the price is still $2000+

Both the D3 and Z1/Z2 are great units. The The Z series is hard drive based, which is very nice because you can use navi and watch a DVD at the same time (and also store music).

Pauls sight has up to 2005 which is the MOST system, I don't know if there is any changes. My disc goes to 2006, and I haven't found the retrofit bulletin yet. I will keep looking. But if you check the part numbers with the dealer it may be the same system. Try OEM parts.

Not smart

You're a fool to replace the COMAND just to gain Bluetooth connectivity. I assume you have the Entertainment Package which has the cell phone pre-wiring. Go online and look at the price for accessories, the phone system is $765 and the Bluetooth module is $408 at wireless4mb.com, it's probably a few hours labor, so I would estimate $1,400 - $,1500.

You can't beat the MB OEM systems -- you are better off investing in the factory Handsfree system rather than getting rid of the COMAND and trying to replace it with something else.

It is VERY easy to beat the OEM MB system. Even the COMMAND in the facelifted W203s is at least 2 generations behind the Pioneer units. However, I agree that it is not worth switching just to try to add Bluetooth. $1500 for OEM Bluetooth seems about right. I know that's a lot of money, but that is MUCH cheaper than converting to aftermarket nav and doing it correctly.

I have the H/K system in my 2005. You mention that it is pre-wired. I also have the Tele-Aid system. Would my system have the communications systeM? or would i still need to add the phone system? the cradle is not too bad at $408..
