Possible MAF issue

Yesterday I brought my '01 C320 to a reputable, independant MB shop here in town for an oil change. When I picked my car up they said they went ahead and checked the air filters and such. Well now I think something may be wrong as a result of the work/inspection I had done. Everytime I've driven the car since picking it up it hesitates badly at least one time upon pushing the gas. Say if i'm stoped at a red light and the light changes and I try to accelerate the car well hesitate for 3-4 seconds then decide to go. Could they have possibly damaged the MAF? Wouldn't I get a check engine light? I was going to reset the ECU but I dont know if there is any point. Any ideas?

Check to see if the air filters are seated correctly and the housings completely latched.

I have a similar issue that happened after i took out my filters to clean them. I sprayed my MAF withe MAF cleaner as well. Mine only idles rough sometimes when the car is cold. I don't get a CEL either. Any insight?

I haven't really noticed a rough idle. It did seem to be idling low however. I noticed idling at 500rpm when I was at a red light earlier.

I know THEY checked the filters, that is why I am just advising you to double check their work and make sure the filters are seated, and the filter housing and hoses are tight and latched.

If you think you'll be ok with it, i'd suggest removing the airbox and doing a thorough inspection of it, the filters, and the airway as well as the MAF sensor. Are you using any filters that require oiling such as K&N?

I'm just running OEM filters. I have heard of the MAF issues with using Green or K&N filters... If they did the work and possibly made a mistake shouldn't I take it back to them to fix it? I dont really want to remove the airbox. I know how, I just dont have time...

It is your call, spend a few minutes checking their work, or take it back to the shop and tell them what the problem is, and have them fix it.

I just ran up to the shop and had them look over it. He said that the tech didn't remove the entire airbox to check the filters. He just removed the tubes and looked at the filters through the front of the airbox. The owner of the shop drove it around and said they he felt it idle rough once. He said the MAF is probably on its way to busted. Great...

Is the a DIY for the MAF?

Update

I went to pep boys and picked up a can of the MAF cleaner and then swung by the stealership and grabbed 2 new air filters. I removed the airbox and the MAF. I then cleaned the MAF and changed the air filters. I put everything back together and it looks like I may have solved the problem! No rough idle and no more hesitation. I also reset my ECU. Talk about throttle response I haven't felt in a while! Thanks for the info guys!!!

They make have knocked some dust loose from the air filter and it fell in the intake and that may have dirtied the MAF wire. You have to careful these days with filters, the MAF wire is sensitive. I vacuum out the box and make sure the new filter sits in there perfect with the gasket and all. I think the reason that aftermarket filters have problems is not the oil coating, it's that they don't fit right and let dust through. I felt the K&N had a sloppy fit and poor quality.

Has anyone ever put some type of chicken wire or mesh over the air intakes? As in the opening directly behind the grill... I'm surprised I didn't find a bird in there! There was a lot of BIG debris in my air box!

Maybe so... I couldn't see anyhting on the MAF wire but it def seeems to be running better now.
