C6 or Command???
Hi...
My wife is looking at too superdeals on '01 C320's? They are comparably priced and are in colors she likes. Question:
1) Should she go for the C6 package w/lowbeam xenons, and then install the COMMAND at the dealer? The seller claims to have checked with the dealer and said it can be installed for about $2400. I want to check with the service manager but this is Sunday. On this site, I've seen quotes as high as $6K. And then I've also seen info on buying the Euro Command and getting TV tuning in addition. Does anyone know how much this costs? I'd really like to know because I drive a C32 w/o NAV (bought used for a steal!) and I would like that cool center screen if the cost isn't too bad.
2) Should she go for the one with the US COMMAND, and then I'll upgrade her wheels & suspension & xenons later? What else does the C6 come with? With this option, I know we would not be getting that TV tuner sold in NY. I believe the site said $3.5K just for that tuner connection. For $3.5K I believe I could upgrade so many things, the car could look exactly like my C32!
Basically, what is a better value? With mileage and price being equal (both cars have every other option), which one would you get? Any response would help!

I doubt any dealer will install a Comand system for you. It took me many months to get all the correct info to install one. You will have to get Comand from Europe since the price is usa is a couple of grand. Then you will still need some more stuff like the HS antenna, cd changer wiring harness, etc. Later you will have to get activation from the dealer so you can see the data on the Speedo Display. Get the one with the Comand and do the upgrades later on with the wheels, tires, etc... Also, the euro comand has a different band width for AM stations.

Since they both have changers, I guess I would just need to buy a Euro Command, HS antennae and wiring hariness. I'm going to check with my dealer to see how feasible this is. But I have seen others on this forum who claim to have installed COMMAND later. Is there any truth to this?

I drove a 99 M3 6 speed (stock) and used do anywhere from hi 4's (once) to hi 6's. With the speedshift (stock)and the same 105 octane, I do consistent mid 4's. Even beat a 911 and many corvettes on the same run before. I routinely surprise everyone. Just had to replace melted amg brakes once! ...

i say get the command, unless your wife likes the aluminum interior( it can be replaced), the command is nice to have whether you use it or not. The sports package is not really worth it, i got only because i thought i wouldnt do any aftermarket work to it. if you want the factory sports items let me know. i still have them in near new condition. springs/struts and wheels. also you can order Bi-xenons from europe and have them installed,. some like that look better than the original xenons, i'm happy with what i have..

The current CD based COMMAND system is obsolete. The newer DVD based COMMAND that is offered on the new E-class is a superior system. I don't know why MB saddled the rest of their 2003 line-up with the old CD based system. All their competitors are offering DVD based systems now. MB missed the boat on this one.

They were probably testing the dvd system. I'm sure they would have liked to get that out sooner. If it was full of flaws then they would lose customers in the process. The touch screen from Acura/Honda works nicely. it runs the A/C system and all. I would have liked a dvd based system so it would cover all of the US. instead of 2 states. CA/NV.

When is DVD COMMAND coming out?
If there was a definite date, then we sould just buy the Sport C320 and wait a little to get the new COMMAND. Will it have a TV tuner or at least video input inaddition to audio?
