HID wiring question...

I just got my aftermarket hids. Nice kit from the $450 and no shipping yahoo thing on this board (sorry don't remember vendor right now).

Anyhow, the kit is designed to wire standard headlight output into relay, relay power to battery/ground then that to the ballast. The last kit I used on my BMW went straight to the power on the headlamps and did not use a relay.

I am wondering if this model of complexity is necessary for one.

2) does it limit features (such as auto lights on/off)?

3) can I cut out the whole relay section and go straight into the H7 plugs?

Please advise!

Especially those of you that bought other aftermarket HID kits!!

w/out the relay, you get an error message about the bulbs.

2 options:
use the relay (someone said the relay doesn't work)
don't use the relay; goto dealer and have xenons=present setting activated in the DAS

That's called "thread hijacking". you could have PM'd Peet with the same request.

Xenon preinstall question..

I got a few replies so will try again. The xenon kit I received comes with a relay that uses voltage to headlight to kick off relayed juice directly from battery.

If I install this way, will I be able to skip the programming nonsense?????

Or...

Either way I'll need to get the programming???

I want to install this weekend, but am afraid of getting in too deep and then having to screw around with turning on the headlights because I needed programming.

Thanks again.

Next Generation Lighting Xenon Replacement?

Interesting article.

Could move this to audio and electronics but wanted to give y'all here a heads up.

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/WEBONLY...ep02/lite.html

"Kevin Dowling points the light at me and suddenly, in a head-splitting blaze of white, I'm ready to confess. It's true, I'm ready to blubber; I had been thinking that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were basically just dim and dowdy indicator lights. I had no idea that they had become bright enough to make an iguana squint.

The light Dowling is wielding consists of 56 white and 7 amber-colored LEDs. The total package occupies an area not much bigger than a letter-sized sheet of paper and it throws about 1900 lumens—more than both headlights on the average automobile. And this little demonstrator is not even state of the art. Outfitted with the brightest of the white LEDs on the market, it would throw an astounding 7500 lm—almost as much as a typical sodium-vapor street light."

Saturn has a car, well its a prototype, called the SKY, that uses the LED lighting both front and rear...its quite cool looking. I doubt the cool lights will make it into production on the SKY.

HID Kit

Can someone recomend a HID Kit that will fit on the Kompressor. I was looking at Midnightmoose.com for a HID Conversion Kit but Im not reallt sure if any of them will fit.
http://www.midnightmoose.com/hid.htm

Just to make sure I have it straight, a HID will make the headlights look just like S-Class Headlights? Also do I have to take the car to the dealership to make any changes to the computer?

Post HIDs

You Can Buy the aftermarkit HIDs But ...The Housings/Lens are NOT correct for the light pattern. If You look at the Factory OEM XEON Headlites you will see the different lens and reflector for the Xeon lites.I Would Install factory Xeon headlites..
I Have Bought european Xeon headlites from WWW.MBenz.nl
Steve can get any euro part you need at a great Price!
Good Luck on your Choice!

QC1, are you looking for a HID assembly or a HID conversion kit?

HID kit problem! Help!!

Finally got my HID kit (I was waiting for the newer version which would correct the "error message" after installed) But, unfortunatly, after a friend installed it for me, the error message still show and lights kept blinking. While I am waiting for my friend to get different kits to test on my car, just wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem

you have to take it to the dealership so that the car can detect the xenon lights, because your car was equipped with out the xenons, so you need have it recognize them, all they have to do it reprogram it...

Are you sure those blood-sucking dealer will reprogram for you if you didn't spend $$$ buying original xenon kit from them?

It depends on the dealer. Some will do it, some won't. It only takes around 5 minutes and they could probably do it while your car is waiting to get washed...but you will have to chat to your dealer to see if they are willing to do it.

You should have found about all this before you bought the kit!

Another way to bypass it is if you wire it directly to your switch. I posted it before. If you do a search you can find it. You will still get the error message but at least it will work. Thats what I did. I also went to the dealer to get it programed for Xenons but no difference. Mine would stay on for a few min then switch off and repeat the processs. I think what I did is the best method.

Thats why i didnt bother to get HID's. The freaking dealer wont even change my settings to nether lands, for the alarm chirp. They said that it will change the whole car to europe specs. I didnt even feel like arguing with those morons:p

You should see the mechanics they have there, looks like a bunch of hill billies working on cars:p :p

Plus if anything electrical happens to your car, they will try to say that the HID's cause it

I really want damn HId's, and i have the money ready to order. But the thing is i keep on hearing that you have to turn on your lights 5 seconds before you turn on your car, or keep resting them???

What if the dealer changed it to xenons will you still have to reset it??

Thanks Guys
