$13,253.14 to fix my car
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/188875-rear-ended-x2-bad-month.html
i am graduating medical school in a few weeks and i am trying to purchase a house on my own... once graduation roles around ive been told i will be cut off from the parents funds....
should i get it fixed? or settle?
personally i want it fixed because the car is paid for!!!!!
if i settle i would probably end up buying a new car and be stuck with a monthly payments...
and if i purchase a car... i doubt i would be approved for a house as well....
humm....
any advice? suggestions?

You weren't at fault, you shouldn't be paying anything to get your car fixed. Use the rental till the shop fixes your car. What's the problem again?
The advice in the thread is good, let your insurance handle matters with the offender's insurance. You will get your $250 deductible back. You might want to nitpick and sue/ask for loss-of-value (not worth it usually due to legal fees).

I say leave the car as is if you have to pay for the car. You are graduating from med-school, which means you still have to do residency, in which case, the money aint gonna skyrocket until you are done that...
Your parents are cutting the funds, and that means you have to move out as well? If possible, you should stick with your parents until residency is over... Buying a house is pretty hard on you, and residency aint no easy ride.
But if you must move out, then I say go with the house. Besides, it's a 2002 C240, check the blue book value for it and see if it's worth fixing (2003 c240 traded in for 15000, no accidents, garaged and well maintained). So I don't know if it's worth keeping the 2002 c240. You are going to be a dr. in a few years with some good pay, I say just go ahead and do the house thing. Car can come later, 335i just came in cabriolet, it's a good choice, w204 is on its way. You got plenty of choices. I say scrap the car.

its in the shop also....... im driving my super fast 1979 300d....
i did a search on mbusa.com pre cerf... white w203 2002 average between 19K-24K
weird thing is... it seemed like the white cars ran higher in price than the other colors.....
i printed off the list.... if i do not get the car fixed... i will hopefully get a settlement somewhere in that ballpark.

yes i have insurance...
that price is the body shops appraisal. so hopefully this is the HIGH end. i am still waiting for the @ fault parties' insurance estimate.
i have also involved my insurance company. my insurance company is appraising it today.
bottom line is.. i want the car fixed without it costing me anything...... even if repair cost are more than the vehical is worth. and if i am to settle i would want a settlement amount that is similar to what the MB dealerships are selling there 2002 w203 on mbusa.com pre cerf cars.. which is ranging from 19k- 24k.

and 20+ range should be C320 not 240.
you can prob find a good used condition C240 for around 15k
say 02 with under 50k miles

i know mbusa is a rip off.. but i would be using them as leverages to hopefully get a larger settlement price rather than 15-16k that they will probably try to throw at me.....

your insurance co will go after their insurance and sue them if necessary to obtain the funds, but your insurance will cover your repairs if theirs won't, nothing out of the pocket for you.
if the numbers don't make sense, the insurance co will counter with a settlement offer to you, another decision you have to make, if it comes to that. going from the base estimate and current market values for a equivalent car, you won't get a settlement offer (you want a really high estimate, not a low estimate) - especially without any personal injuries.
get your car fixed, drive it for a while, then choose to trade it in or sell it at a later date.
for a doc, you seem a tad bit ... slow.

He's had many replies to both his threads about the car, rear-ending and his changing situation (buying a house, no more parental $$ support, changing cars). plus he's expecting a settlement offer (in the range of 19-24k) on damages that are approx $13k.
Now, tell me why would anyone pay 19-24k on 13k worth of damage? You need something else to push them to settle for a higher amount - it would be easier if he was rear ended by a commercial vehicle. Can always debate the repair costs on items appraised by insurance, it depends a lot on the repair shop as well, in their discussions with the appraiser.
I'm saying there needs to be a little more reading comprehension.

yes i do know if you search on ebay.. you will find the cars cheaper.... but if i settle... like you stated.... i dont want a cheap settlement (i.e. using an ebay car price vs. mbusa.com price) again.. this is if i settle and do not get the car fixed
the reason i want the car fixed... is because it is paid for... free and clear!!! if i purchase a new car.. i will be stuck with payments.... taxes and tiles... if i purchased a used car using the the settlement money.... again i will be stuck with taxes and title... money out of my pocket...

Out Of Control!!
On the other hand, if you get it fixed, you'll be stuck with a car that's been in an accident, which will kill the value of the car.
Your car will also be a huge question mark in terms of reliability long-term; a car is never the same after such a significant crash. I'd pray for a settlement instead of them fixing it if I were you. Then buy a used car of your preference with the settlement $, and deal with the title/taxes as the lesser of two evils.

Maybe I'm missing the boat here....but everytime I've been in an accident I refuse to and never have had to discuss the issue with the other party or the other party's insurance company.
That's why I pay $xxx of dollars every six months to an insurance company with some firepower and lots of lawyers.....they should be handling this for you. Especially someone like State Farm.
Either way, I hope it works out for you.
I would think $13K worth of damage on a $19K car = total loss

missouri state law says that damage costs totaling greater that 75% of the cars value should be deamed a total loss.
13,200 was the body shops estimate (13200/19000) 69%
11,800 was the at fault parties insur estimate (11,800/19000) 62%
should know by the end of the day whats going to happen... fix or settle...
